A SMALL HOUSE 141111 PILLASING ROOF IINYS
By it C Hunter & Arebtor New York City
The long eloping lines of the roof give this house a pleasing character in with the hood that extends across
the frent Just above the first story windows a srong horizonul effect is obtained that tend9 to lower the aPiwar-
ance of the house and at the same time to increase the apparent length
This gives a front of good proportions that hi not stilted and in no way suggestive of the fourwalhandroof
"box" that hi so often characteristic of mall two-story houses
To further this pleasing horizontal effect the windows are arranged in groups symmetrically placed Most
striking is the group ef five large window in the first story that center in the living room opposite the fireplaot
giving a most Untlfillal wail treatment and making the room blight and ottractive A flower box extends the full
length under this group of windowe offering a tempting setting for get anitinot anti hanging vines whelp they will
show to the best advantage both front within and without
The first story walls are of stucco on hollow tile giving a most effective background for planting and lending
variety to the exterior in the contrast Of both color and texture the plain wall affords in relation to the ehingle walls
and roof above
A small reception hail a living room a dining room kit chen and attractive living porch complete the first floor
This porch has a cement floor and the openings aro so arranged that the enclosing of the porch in the winter
most simple matter giving another room and one that is delightful to live in
On the second floor are three good size bed rooms and a bath Closet space is not lacking All of the bed
rooms have group windows that give plenty of air and sunOtine
Cost about $980
Complete working plans and specifications of this house may be obtained for a nominal mum from the Building
