The following is a totter from
Leo Rowe of Chubut Argentina
Is A to his parents Mr and
Mrs S D Rowe:
I am rigging up im a nekv loca-
tio and while the men areput
ting up 1-inch guy lines I will
write a IOW
The 1-inch guys are used be-
case this month the 100 mile
per hour winds start blowing out
of the west aril our masts only
stand 00 Ui ph winds without
drill pipe So in order to hold
10000 feet of I t-:z inch hilt pipe
we use 1-inch linos
Some old timers saY w:mis
sometime bloW U1) t) mph
Day before yesterday we had 105
mph wind
The days are ptting longer
and by December w-) will have 23
hours of daylight Th sun
throws its shadow to the south
The sun was 35 degrees up and
to the north today The moon is
30 degrees up anti to tho north
Tonight fin- a change W ? could
see all the stars The milky way
is running north and south but
we are too far south to find the
big dipper
The temperature is 23 tonight
and it's springtime here
Tomorrow I am flying to Rio
Grande the farthest town and
air port in South America Ice-
bergs are breaking up and I want
to see Penguin birds They ride
the Icebergs out to sea no one
knows where they go but next
April when winter sets in they
will be back to hatch their young
By the way the reason I am
going by plane is that the roads
to Rio Grande are still blocked
by ice I am going by company
plane
I went to Comodona last week
to a sale Sheep sold from 82c
to $15C per head flogs shipped
from the north sold at $300 per
hundred and were butchered the
next day The company bought
2000 pounds of pork for 10c per
Pound That is standard price
here But house rent—that's a
different story Our company
pays WO per month for some
houses in town After you rent a
house you have to buy the key
and it costs up to $2000 But you
can sell the key to the next man
when you move out
Well I better get the mast up
and rig up to drill the rat hole
It's terribly lonesinne her so
don't he surpriso-d to get a call
from 111)ustim Christmas I am
learning to like Nescafe coffee
but I could go to some La

Just too much eoffee ()I I'd never
have switched to Neseatb

The Weatherman-:
After stumbling around in the
dark for almost a week of clouds
and rain our eyes were a little
unused to the sunshine of Mon-
day and Tuesday But oh what
a welcome relief after 1330
inches of rain in five days
There isn't much else to say
except that it rained because
there's so much already said
about it in other parts of this
week's paper
We do know that the first four
days of October set a record for
monthly rainfall for the year by
registering 1118 Because the
rainfall was so heavy for the
week we will break It down into
daily recordings Last Wednes-
(lay's rain of 232 inches fell
during the early hours and was
reported in last week's weather
story The rest of the week's
rainfall is as follows: Thursday
52 i'riday 590 Saturday 339
Sunday 137 In the event these
figures do not correspond with
the reader's figures it must be
remembered that the readings
must be made for the U S Wea
the!' Bureau at? am each morn-
ing rather than midnight to mid-
night Variations in the daily high
and low temperatures were for
the most part about 20 degrees
however on last Saturday the
mercury rose only 5 degrees from
the morning low
Temperatures are as follows:
