The Worth of the Indiribtal
Lesfon for July 1: Ilatibew 8: 1-4:
18: 1-6 12-14
Memory Selection: Psalms 8: 5
D URING the quarter we have
Christian teaching on human
relations and we begin today with
a lesson on the worth of the in-
dividual We read of Jesus cleansing a
poor leper In the ancient time
there was no cure for leprosy and
the man afflicted with it had no
hope of being saved from it except
by the healing of God The man of
whom we read had a great faith
sayirg unto the Lord: "If thou wilt
thou canst make me clean" And
Jesus said unto him: "I will be
thou made clean"
When the disciples came to Jesus
and asked him who was the great-
est in the kingdom of heaven he
called a little child set him in
their midst and bade them be
humble as the child and declared
that whosoever should cause such
a little one to stumble would be bet-
ter off to have a millstone hanged
about his neck and be drowned in
the depth of the sea Thus did
Jesus emphasize the value of child-
hood The last passage indicates by the
story of the lost sheep the Lord's
solicitude for the lost of men It is
rot the will of the Father that any
man should perish Thus Jesus sets
an infinite value upon every human
being And so should we and make
sure of our own salvation and set-
ting an infinite value upon others
try to bring them to salvation
