Audience Enthusiastic Over
Red Lantern Performance
of "The Open Gate"
--
Poise City gave its unqualified
approval to the dramatic efforts
of the Red Lantern Players last
Thursday night when nearly 500
people filled the Palace Theatre
for the performance of "The Open
Gate" The audience was unques-
tionably compensated for its pres-
ence at the second home talent
drama of the season and citizens
were conscious that this sort of en-
tertainment was much to be en-
couraged in the community
The players theilselves reflect-
ed weeks of strenuo 's training and
the performance of the four act
royalty play was of high quality
The natural talents of the artists
and the deeply emotional nature
of the plot combined admirably to
give the audience a truly high type
of drama
' The actors appeared very well
suited for their parts The cheer-
ful and refreshing personality of
the character "Sam" was naturally
portrayed by Alty Travelstead
Carl Et ling made an excellent har-
dened hypocrite in his interpreta-
tion of Luther Dradley Violet
Travelstead won the audience read-
ily with a realistic acting of the
invalid role of Lucy in reflecting
a certain sweetnes3 in sorrow
Irene Wagoner kept the crowd
roaring with her apt interpretation
of the much feared maiden of sev-
eral summers Libby while Katy
Potter and Derril McQuirk brought
out the romance of the play in true
fashion Mrs Joe Stubblefield
directed the players Thursday
Forced to rely on a minimum of
stage properties through the fact
that the players form an ameture
company lilhtning scenery an
electrical and sound effects were
carried out in a surprisingly effec-
tive manner The gathering storm
in the last act vast ruly a high-
light in the play
Supporting tU! cast with popular
music precceding the performance
and between acts was a local or-
chestra consisting of Johnnie Good
Raymond Jones Bonnie Laker
Glen Haskins Okue Showalter and
Alfred Pitzer
r T ravel stead announced
Thursday night that the Red Lan-
tern Players would present their
next drama in the Palace Theatre
during December

Urges Producers to
Join Organization
Bill Darnell of Oklahoma City
gave Boise City folks something
to think about yesterday morning
when he spoke for more than an
hour at the east entrance of the
courthouse in the interests of the
National Producers Alliance newly
formed organization for the pro-
motion of producers interests
Mr Darnell declared that the or-
ganization believed labor creates
and the wealth that labor should
consequently have all the wealth
that under-consumption is the
cause of over production and that
distribution is the real problem
facing the American people today
Mr Darnell was -here in the in-
terests of getting signers for the
alliance which will form in county
state and national groups in the
endeavor to get a "square deal"
for producers A state meeting is
