Bob Turner and Widt Fmlitn are fashioning home-made "Turner
Torpedoes" during their idle hours which they claim will "make bombers
look like a top water bait" -l-unimertime plugs" they call 'cm and
they're guaranteed to plcw a two-toot furrow in the bottom of the deep-
est water
An unpredictable source this week declared flatly that Bob Turner
returned from a lake excui den last week with his stringer still in his
tack: box Bob fired right back that the only time he would return
without a fish is when he goes swimming "And I don't go swimming"
he swears
At least a half-dozen panfish anglers in Madill continue to re-
port large catches of battling bream while other would-be perch fisher-
men continue to howl for bait If you haven't the inclination to grow
your own worms in a moist area sandwiched with bran and corn meal
then try this simple but effective substitute: Boil macaroni only until
it becomes flexible then dunk it in a strong solution of tea or coffee
"Looks Just like worms and the fish don't seem to know the difference
either" says Miss Bess Mc Commas who supplied the novel recipe
There are a lot of folks lishin' in Tekoma whether the fish are
biting or not The U S army engineers has issued almost 2000 boat
permits for the lake Last Frioay the mark stood at 1928 and this
figure includes renewals
The fish apparently were hungerin' last Wednesday when Ebb
Flynt and Les Yarger decided to dunk a few minnows Les credited Ebb
with 11 fish and Ebb likewise boasted of Les' catch of 10 Sounds like
another Turner-Fondren combination
Fish are as unpredictable as the antics of a red-headed stepchild
But then that's what makes fishin' fun says Dale Ozrnent who this
week latched on to a four and a half pound blue cat while trolling with
a red and white bomber The tussle was a fitting climax to his first day
out with his new five-horse motor
Freck Reid and C B Allen didn't know whether to shed bitter
tears or laugh out loud Sunday alter having a tug-of-war with lady
luck They had every reason to wear long faces after losing three good
bass when a steel stringer broke And their faces undoubtedly grew
longer when a second stringer-full caught later in the day became en-
tangled in the motor prop and was promptly churned to pieces But
persistance won out They made it home with 10 good bass
Norman Brillhart and Raymond Hays came within two strikes of
being forced into bigger lies than they usually relate Both caught one
(1) each after several hours of trolling and plugging last week
How's this for a trotline record: Last Sunday night "Moon" Mul-
lins another Pure Oil Employe and L E McCutchen hauled in two
16 pounders five other catfish that weighed in between 8 and 15 pounds
and 75 pounds of channel and blue cats weighing between one and three
pounds
