areas.
It was while working here
that he met his wife, Phill-
pine born Kay Managbanag,
a graduate of Philips Univer-
sity of Enid, and at that
time a rotating staff worker
in the Texas Migrant Ministry.
Their daughter, Betty Jo, 9,
was born in California.
In January, 1964, the Robert-
sons moved to White Deer,
Tex., just west of Pampa,
where he was pastor of the
First Presbyterian church, a
small congregation in a town
of about a thousand people.
Looking for more challenge,
Robertson accepted the posi-
tion he now holds.
"Given its age and experi-
ence, they < SWOMMi have
done a tremendous amount of
work here," Rev Robertson
said “Considering other pro-
grams I have seen, they have
been able to go further in
six years than several of the
others."
The Ministry began as the
Jackson County Migrant Min-
istry in 1959, two years be-
fore Rev. Krueuger arrived to
take over as the program’s
first full-time director In fact,
for the first two or three
years, the program only last-
ed three months out of the
year, during the time the mi-
grants were present
Now, of course, several of
the so-called migrants are no
longer actually migrating.
) Many. Rev Robertson, said,
are settling down and more
desire to. The demand for
seasonal labor has decreased
also. Increased mechanization.

trol and defoliation techni-
ques. plus the big drop which
came as a result of the bra-

But the migrants - 90 per
cent of whom are Spanish-
American are still the pri-
mary concern of SWOMM,
and of Rev. Robertson. He,
as well as other SWOMM
leaders, feel that the program
needs to be expanded to take
over a five county area, and
to get the churches to cooper-
ate and associate with the
migrant worker more and
