“The second board I served on was
the Altus City Council as an elected
councilman from Ward II. During
the time I was the chairman of the
sanitation committee, I accomplish-
ed several things of which I am
especially proud. I prepared and
passed an ordinance prohibiting the
burning of trash and garbage within
the city limits. This ordinance is still
in effect. The sanitation committee
also changed the use of open-ended
oil drums for garbage to covered
garbage cans and increased the gar-
bage collections to twice a week
without raising the rates. I served on
the city council for six years until I
moved to Ward I.
“During my business career, I
have served many civic groups as
president. These are a few: chamber
of commerce, Rotary Club, Black
Beaver Council of the Boy Scouts,
United Way of Jackson County,
Southwestern Oklahoma Community
