ADVANCES IN HUMAN RELATIONS
Hard labor is fast being eliminated
Man no longer lives by the sweat of his
brow literally that is He has harnessed
power in nature built machines put that
power into that machine and directs the
machine to do the work that once pro-
duced sweat
This is comforting and should produce
more happiness but has it We now
have more government than th:s nation
ever experienced before with possible
exceptions of World War I and World
War II and every time a legislature or
congress passes a law it is taking from
some citizen some of the freedom he
formerly had With the taking of free-
dom the government also takes some
happiness
There is little or no relation between
the machine and the laws of the land
but it would seem the leisure the ma-
chine permits the happier we ought to
be And the happier we are the fewer
laws we need and should have Why
does not this rule work!
We are inclined to think that the more
leisure we have the more we want may-
be with the ultimate wish for no work
at all—and of course nature will not
let us reach that point But in fighting
for more leisure we want it for our-
selves and are perfectly willing to take
it away from a neighbor In fact is there
not a challenge to have more than the
neighbor whether that be leisure house
clothes food car or imaginary enjoy-
ment? This boils down to the fact that the
race has not progressed as much in the
relations of its members as it has in
the production of goods With less sweat
and more leisure why should we not
be able to relax read think visit each
person or group choosing associates ac-
cording to like ability to enjoy the same
things?
In this country our economy is based
upon production acquisition and con-
sumption of wealth Inasmuch as our
productive processes are more than need-
ed why should there he so much govern-
rnent to control acquisition?
These things cause the wisest of the
philosophers to wrinkle their brow s So
if you wrinkle yours you will be in good
company After all We presume human-
ity does not pretend to be consistent or
logical
Can you go to bel cut off your mind
and go to sleep? If so you are a lucky
person Many men train themselves to
do that and others uorry through the
night and are cross all the next day

I think that all the kids who are doing

CALL IT AT LEAST A MOUTHFUL
You can get just so much mileage from a
set of natural teeth and when you've had
it it's time for a trade-in To many den-
tists try to prolong the day of reckoning and
too many patients cooperate because in the
American culture teeth are a vanity
We judge the age of a horse by the state
of his bicuspids We are hardly more chari-
table in our evaluation of our brethren
And yet when does it really matter? A gal
with dentures can bite just as hard—or kiss
Just as convincingly—as a lass sith home-
grown choppers A mo'ar more or less is
