Keep March 3 in mind as
that's the night of the annual
Chamber of Commerce ban-
quet It will be in the junior
high gymnasium The program
is about ready for announcing
but some of the details are
still being worked out The
banquet is getting to be a ma-
jor event in these parts and
will have to be held in the
gym to have enough room
"We have been the recipients
of the choicest bounties of heav-
en we have grown in numbers
wealth and power as no other
nation has ever grown But we
have forgotten God We have
forgotten the gracious band
which preserved us in peace and
multiplied and enriched and
strengthened us and we have
vainly imagined in the deceit-
fulness of our hearts that all
these blessings were produced
by some superior wisdom anti
virtue of our own
"Intoxicated with unbroken
success we have become too
self-sufficient to feel the neces-
sity of redeeming and preserv-
ing grace too proud to pray to
the God that trade us"
The above could have been
written today—but they are the
words of "A Lincoln" many
years ago
to hear people talk about them-
selves 'cause Ni hen they talk
about themselves he never
bears anything bad
If you thought you heard an
owl hooting late last week you
probably guessed right But you
won't hear him any more
A pet duck belonging to one
of Mrs Nellie Vaughan's grand-
childrern was found one morn-
ing sans head A trap was set
in the pen the next night and
the next morning there was a
big owl caught in it
The owl was probably proud
of his 5-foot wing spread—but
now he just doesn't give a hoot
The typogremlins were work-
ing last week when we had one
of the high school girls repre-
senting the school board at a-
dinner that wasn't even attend-
ed by the board When bigger
mistakes are made you can
count on us However we notice
that even the highly-staffed big
papers aren't imune to such misprints
