LET OUR PEOPLE GO
The national office of the Socialist party begins a thirty-day
campaign for the release of political prisoners tomorrow Novem-
ber 16—and the above is the slogan of the campaign—Let our
people go!
Of course the national office has been working hard for the
release of political prisoners at all times but its work was very
much interfered with by the obstructionists They sabotaged all
these efforts so long as they were on the inside
The work was continued in spite of them however—and now
it is propo8ed to concentrate upon it for thirty days in order to
get all the members busy so that they will work for it until the
campaign succeeds
It may succeed soon It may not But the campaign goes
on until it does succeed
The national office is stimulating the publication of articles
on the subject in the Socialist and other labor papers furnishing
leaflets for distribution urging the comrades to visit labor unions
urging personal interviews telegrams letters resolutions etc
As to the telegrams letters and resolutions it is urged that
one week be devoted to sending as many of them as possible to
the attorney general another week to the senators another to
the congressmen another to the president
From Sunday November 16 to Saturday November 22 in-
clusive these messages are to be sent to Attorney General
Palmer Washington D C
This is therefore a part of your personal work during the
coming )'eek
Write or telegraph to the attorney general Regardless of
your age sex or colorwrite to him Get your union and your
party branch to adopt resolutions and send them to him
That is the special work for this coming week—but there is
a regular work to be done by you at all times—regular until the
campaign succeeds If you ever read any publication—magazine
or paper—other than The Leader—write to it on this subject
Make your letter brief and to the point Ask that it be published
All this helps Do your part
THE OLD PARTIES ARE ALLIES
When in order to punish the Democratic administration the
voters wobble over to the Republicitn trench as they did in an
Oklahoma district at a recent special election they accomplished
their purpose about as effectively as they would smash the pluto-
crats if they took a dollar from Morgan and gave it to Rocke-
feller For be it known that the Republicans and the Democrats
are allies They are on the same side of the battle line and both
of them are firing against the common people
Don't be fooled by pyrotechnic displays of oratory The
Republicans and Democrats pretend to flay one another That
is the way they fool the people and keep the people divided
against themselves
There is no fundamental difference between those two
parties They both stand for the supremacy of the plutocrats
They both stand for the continuance of the robbery of the work-
ing class by the capitalist class They both stand for the com-
mercial system that makes the nation a competitor instead of a
comrade of other nations and thereby keeps the country always
in danger of war
Their differences on the subject of the league of nations are
slight Both stand for it because it is an imperialistic league
Both oppose a genuine world brotherhood organization
Their alleged differences on other questions are just as spur-
ious They stage a sham battle with each other in order to engage
the attention of the people and prevent the people from takirg
up the real social problems and solving them
They do this because both of them are owned and con-
trolled by the capitalist class—and it is against the financial in-
terest of the capitalist class to have the social problems solved
That class profits by keeping the social conditions as they are
If the social problems were solved the capitalists would lose
their graft
TRICKED BY THE STORK
The British prince who is hobnobbing with the financial
kings of America and their courtiers is really not to blame for his
unfortunate condition The stork played a mean trick on the
Poor kid when it left him at the waning house of a monarch
Probably his dad sent him here to inspect the gift that the
senate is making to England The king would hardly want to
take a whole nation without giving us the once over to see if we
are worth having
i‘leanwhile the grinning spook of George the Third stands
in the offing and gibbers "All things come to him who waits"
The present is the proper time for George the Third and
hi S tory descendants on both sides of the deep to indulge in a
hearty haw-haw at the expense of the American people
But he who laughs last laughs best
By the time the princelet gets ready to make a grab for the
crown he will find that like the Irishman's flea it isn't there
It will have been tossed into the trash heap in the back alley
along with the tin cans The British imperialistic regime will
be out there on the rubbish heap too The workers will be in con-
trol of England And as the mournful ex-prince passes by they
will sing:
"If I should live to be
The last leaf upon the tree
In the spring
Let them smile as I do now
At the old forsaken bough
Where I cling"

ORGANIZATION
BY I M SINCLAIR
Suggestions put forth in last week's issue on plan of organ-
izatiol have biought forth many letters Most of the letters re-
ceive have heartily endorsed the whole plan but a few of them
want to go further in the legislative halls
For instznce instead of electing representatives as we do at
the present time by geographical districts or boundaries to elect
them from the different working groups Let the miners select
their representatives the farmers also select from their class the
same of the railroad and all other classes of labor Make the law-
making body strictly working class To thcse advance revolution
ary ideas I take no exception I do not believe they can or will get
us very far with the courts in hands of the capitalists
But when we initiate a law for state owned and democratic
managed warehouses elevators cotton gins and compresses a cot-
ton mill to handle the raw product state insurance and a state
owned packing plant and carry it as a constitutional amendment
we will have placed it on the records for good
And this direct ledslation will prove that we are a working
force and not a theory It will bring the workers to us as we will
be proving by concrete example that we are doing something for
them economically
These articles are only offered as suggestions We want your
opinion so we can frame our program that will best suit the great
mass of workers and get them the best results
Your opinions will be of material assistance to the Socialist
executive committee in forming their plans of action Let us hear
from you
I am glad indeed to report to you that the organization is shap-
ing up in great haste Every mail brings in scores of cards from
the old precinct committeemen accepting the place again Others
have moved and send us names of reliable comrades to fill their
place More activity than has been shown for over two years is
now manifést The outlook for a big successful organization is
very encouraging Let's put it over the top One hundred per
cent over the top as the patriots have said Build up the party
membership to 20000 where it belongs Get 50000 subscribers for
the new daily Seat your counter and protect the vote And get
ready to have the biggest celebration in the country when we swing
this state in the Socialist column next year
