MODERN JUDAS'
Text: Matt 26-21 "And as they did eat He said verily I
say unto you that one of you shall betray me"
When Jesus spoke those fateful words and when Judas
with terrible brazonry asked the deceitful (for well he knew
his determination) question "Is It I?" me thinks the an-
swer from the lips of the Master must indeed have sent a wave
of horror through the evil breast of the betrayer A murderer
caught and condemned
There they sat eating the Passover Jesus and the twelve
men whom He had chosen as His bosom companions Twelve
men who had shared with Him His bounty in good times and
bad who had eaten and slept with Him Him who had been
unto them the truest of true friends and one of them out of
the evil of his satan gripped heart deliberately plotting His
murder and that with the full knowledge that his victim was
well aware of the contemplated act A vicious terrible plot
One full worthy of its instigator—Satan And withal a sad a
Pitiful picture The betrayal and subsequent murder of the most
noble of Almitglity God's gifts to mankind the blessed Lord
Jesus
And today there are many Judas' Iscariots in the land and
for the same reasons they do their satan prompted work And
the same effect is had—they kill themselves spiritually
Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus for ambition's sake Because
he loved money better than he loved the salvation of his soul
Because he loved self the carnal self more than he loved the
spiritual self because he had allowed the wiles of satan to over-
come and ensnare him Because he had turned things Celestial
to things Terrestial Ambition for power greed for money self
interest were the cause of the downfall of Judas And such is
the driving power behind the Iscariots of today selling their
birthright for a mess of pottage
People speak of the depression of the economic turmoil
that surrounds them With full vim and vigor do they set about
to overcome the conditions of the time driven by ambition
love of money self interest betraying the blessed Lord Jesus
over and over again in their mad rush to secure the perishable
things of this world with scarcely if ever a thought for that
great day soon to tome when they must stand before Him and
account to Him
Friends dearly beloved won't you pause in your mad rush
to destruction? Cease being Judas' IscariotsCease striving for
things here but strive to acquire possessions up yonder ‘!where
thieves cannot break through and steal and Where mothand
rust doth not corrupt"
Build your hopes on things Eternal "Stand fast therefore
in the liberty where with Christ bath made 'us free and be not
entangled again with the yoke of bondage
