we may be sure that the news o'

soon got aroilnd Demonic possession

that it was the Sabbath which

Saturday and good Jews would not
"do any work” on the Sabbath

Oklahoma under a democratic
administration the past three years
has set the pace for all sister states
in the way of ulra-modern legisla-
tion The state duiing the period
of the present administration has
pioneered the homestead exemption
and is giving men as well as wo-
men and children the advantages
of a minimum wage and hour law
The democratic state convention
of Sept 10 1931 pledged its state
nominees to a broad modernistic
program with which the guberna-
tional nominee was in accord On
Jan 13 1938 three years of the
Marland administration will have
ended In those three years the
democratic party lias fulfilled every
pledge of its state platform of 1S34
and under the leadership of Gover-
nor Marland has eleven accom-
plishments to Its credit
A quick resume of part of what
has done in three years follows:
SOCIAL SECURITY: Governor
Marland initiated a constitutional
amendment and law to piovide old
age assistance aid for dependent
children aid for needy blind aid
for crippled children and child wel-
fare work all in co-operatiou with
Piesidcnt Roosevelt’s program The
democratic legislature provided the
sales tax to finance the state's
share
GENERAL RELIEF: The state
lias provided a works program di-
rect cash relief along with com-
modities (some furnished by the
fcderol government) free text-
books free clothing and shoes for
needy children and free hot lhnche?
for needy school children
PETROLEUM: Governor Marland
was the first exeentive to force an
incrcase in the gross production tax
thus aiding in equalizing thr tax
burden he established the oil states
compact which stabilized the oil In-
dustry drilled the capitol and
mansion grounds saving the oil rev-
enues to tie stale ard from it a new
office building Is being erected
HIGHWAY SAFETY: The present’
admlnstration strongly supported
by the democratic legislature cre-
ated the department of public safe-
ty and the state highway patrol
HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION Ok-
j lahoma is the first state to grant
j even partial exemption of home-
stead from advalorum taxes This
! was strongly advocated by the 1934
i platform and gularnationai candi-
date FLOOD CONTROL and SOIL
EROSION: Governor Marland pro-
posed the Grand River dam project
and the legislation was enacted in
ills first legislature His administra-
tion is cooperating with the federal
government not only on this pro-
ject but on a general program of
flood control and the prevention of
soil erosion The Governor urged
and got the planning and resmnees
board in order to fully cooperate
with President Rooscelt’s national
resources board The Oklahoma
board lias al-o provided data on the
location and extent of natural re-
sources: on soil needs institutional
needs possibilities of the state as a
