trator of the Farmers Home Ad-

of Agriculture will be guest
speaker McLeaish is a past ex-
ecutive vice president of the Sag
atex Corporation a company pro-
ducing stock feed from dehy-
drated citrus waste: he has had
long experience in business and
agriculture in the Rio Grande
Vrdley of Texas Mr McLeaish
served on advisory committees
for the War Food Administration
and War Manpower Commission
during World War 11 As head of
the Farmers Home Administra-
tion he directs the Department's
loan program which enables 1
small farmers to buy or develop
family-type farms and to increase
the efficiency of their operations
In regard to the program War-
ren Fossett one of the co-chairmen
of the Forum committee
said "The dinner is designed to
show appreciation to our largest
single consumer group of north-
west Oklahoma" Business firms
of Enid were given the opportun-
ity to invite the farmers and
their wives as guests for the din-
ner meeting with efirm repre-
sentative serving as host at his
special table The enthusiasm on
the part of business men was
more than expected for 600
available tickets were sold well

The event is being tried for the
first time in Garfield county and
the Chamber expects to make it
an annual affair The meeting is
set for 7:30 pm May 18 with 40

Oklahoma Natural Gas com-
pany received a national adver-
tising award in the 1954 Better
1Copy contest of the Public Utili-
ties Advertising Association at the
annual convention held in Boston
it was announced today by Jos
Bowes president of Oklahoma
Natural
The award won by the com-
pany was for the best complete
advertising campaign and Okla-
homa Natural's entry was the co-
operative dealer campaign it
sponsored throughout the state
in April and May 1953 on gas
ranges
Over 600 Oklahoma gas range
dealers and 1100 dealer sales-
men participated in the statewide
merchandising event
For this award Oklahoma Nat-
ural was in competition with all
the gas and electric utility com-
panies in the country serving
from 150000 to 400000 customers
Number of entries 2059 were
made in all classifications Includ-
ed in the contest according to
th- announcement made in Bos-
ton by the Public Utilities Ad-
vertising Association
John C Deupree advertising
manager of Oklahoma Natural
who accepted the award for the
company at the convention in
Boston stated that the prize win-
ning advertising campaign con-
sisted chiefly of newspaper ad-
vertising supplemented by radio
television out-door direct-mail
bus cards and other media
The Enid Events was one of
those newspapers which carried
the advertising of the Oklahoma
Natural campaign which won na-
tional recognition

than 8000 youngsters from 11
states will participate in the fes-
tival Pasadena Texas was the
first band group to arrive and
Plattsmouth Neb and Harling-
ton Texas represent two distant
points
During the early stages of the
affair the high schoolers ac-
quainted themselves with Teen-
Town in the old courthouse build
ing that is surrounded by carni-
val rides Mr and Mrs Paul Pur-
nell directors of Teen-Town
were delighted by the full house
of visiting teenagers who stormed
the place to dance drink cokes
eat hotdogs and play the games
of table tennis and marble boards
The youngsters were charged a
25-cent door fee to defray the
cost of operating the free games

brations and a host of well-worn gimmicks have been
used for decades with a considerable measure of success
But no activity in the nromotional field tons the one
Enid is now entertaininct The Tri-State Band Festival is
a superb Vent ur e that has continually proved beefirial
to visitor and townfolk plike It is frPrn o'c:crr ficot a
successful and worthwhile undertaking
Phillips University and Enid civic grouns have collaborated
year after year to assure the propitious outcorn? Prof Milburn
E Carey should be singled out for a decided commendation His
careful work and capable pInnning have lre-t the "1 a
high plane
It is a decided boon to merchants—espaially smaller busi-
nessmen Each of the thousands of participants remain several
days and spend many dollars They do not purchase furniture
or real estate but they stock up on smaller Pnnnrel pnA
tons' of food and loads of entertainment
Merchants and Enid citizens have been most cooperative None
of the contestants is "stuck" for necessities he buys Every cour-
tesy is extended and every facility that can be is offered free
Homes and churches are thrown open to the young visitors
Enid should be proud to host this major musical event Imores-
sions gained by cur young musician friends are carried back to
scores of communities throughout the southwest And we must
see to it that they return home each trip with only praise for
Enid and the festival
Noted musicians throughout the nation lint w of Enid as the
result of these festivals of bands Many of Anki ica's groattst
artists have participated and have enjoyed doing so
And to our young friends we say welcome It was nice of you
to come We enjoy seeing you and viewing your talents We hope
you will gain by the experience and thoroughly enjoy your visit
