the condemned man to see Adry once
more before he died He remained
obstinate to their entreaties for a long
time but finally yielded and sent by
messengers a note reading: "Dear
Adry:--1 want you to come at once to
the jail as I wish particularly to see
you I have no other object than the
desire to ask your forgiveness for any
wrong either real or imaginary 1 may
have done you 1 want once more to
see you on this earth This is the wish
and dying request of your brother
HARRY"
When Adry reached the jai t the two
brothers engaged in interested conver-
sation IYhat passed was not heard
by any person until Harry raised his
voice to say: "Now 1 have done my
part I have forgiven you for all you
have done Now you do as I ask"

son was here in search of a stolen
watch which Frans located at Leibo-
witz's shop and wanted to take to the
Central station for identification
Leibowitz objected and Frans said he
would take him along A scuttle en
sued in which Leibowitz and his wife
got the oftleer down on the floor The
boy procured a revolver from behind
the counter and opened fire on the
policeman Five shots were fired
three of them taking effect one in the
back of the neck and one in the right

through Frans' body and the third

the Federation are conservative as to

Meade Atchison's former school su-
perintendent who was recently con-
victed of forgery and embezzlement
was sentenced to the penitentiary for
three years by Judge Webb yesterday
The judge in passing sentence became
very much affected when he alluded
to Meade's former high standing and
his former friendly relations with
him The sentence was a surprise as
the maximum penalty of five years
was confidently expected rut only by
the victims of Meade's many crimes
but by the general public

and was assigned to duty in the prison

both houses In the House a large number of
bills and joint resolutions were introduced
many of them measures that failed during the
last session Mr Livingstone of Georgia

There were 273 new bills and sixteen resolutions
introducd in the Senate but a large majority
of the bills were reprints of measures which
failed to pass last session Senators Peffer
Stewart and Squire reintroduced their bills of
isA session pertaining to silver coinage Mr
Lodge of Massachusetts introduced a resolu-
tion forcibly approving of the Monroe doctrine
and Mr Call of Florida a resolution directing
that the insurgents of Cuba be recognized u
belligerents
Dec 4 —The Senate worked while the House
enjoyed a recess ' but most of the busineis
transacted was of a routine character Mr
Hoar showed a disposition toward coopera
tion in dealing w:th the Turkish question by
offering a resolution denouncing the recent
atrocities in Turkey and assuring the executive
branch of cordial indorsement by congress of a
vigorous course for the protection of American
citizens in Tur:ey and the suppression of bar
barit les against Christianity The first formal
speech of the session was wade by Mr Alien
Populist of Nebraska on Cuba and the Monroe
doctrine Mr Allen urged the recognition of
the Cuban insurgents the annexation of Cuba
and a strong foreign policy The influx of bills
continued several hundred being added to
thoes alreatly introduced
Des 5—The session of the Senate was brief
agalu Its only feature beyond the introduc-
tion of a bill by Senator Chandler of New
Hampshire for the free coinage of silver when
Ensintel France and Germany should enact
similar legislation were a resolution by his
colleague Senator Gallinger declaring it to be
the sense of the Senate that it was unwise and
inexpedient to retire the greenbasks and a
short speech by Senator Call of Florida in favor
of the recognition of the Cuban revolutionists

hour when it adjourned until Monday Mr
Baker of New Hampshire who has proclaimed
war upon Secretary of Agriculture Morton be-
cause of GIs latter's refusal to expend an appro-
priation for the purchase of seeds for die

attempted to put through a resolution calling
upon the secretary for information upon the
subject but Mr McMillin of Tennesee ob-
jected Plans for the admission of Oklahoma

on territories in the last Congress and the other
two by the two new delegates of the respective

independence and with him is Ser-
