SCIENTIST SEES
- NORDIC DECLINE

Ik
Irdlicka Declares 'Nordic
Supremacy' Never
Established
WASHINGTON D C Aug 13 —
There is no scientific basis for tho
oft-heard "inherent superiority" of
the Nordic people They should be
given all possible credit for their par-
ticipation in its front ranks of present-day
civilization But to attribute
to itny human group an inherent su-
periority of brain or finer blood than
those of the rest of inankind is a
proty)sition which could only be
st ablished by the most convincing
eiputific proofs
These Nvere among several striking
high points in an interview which Dr
A lex Hardlicka world-famous anthro-
pologist accorded Universal Service
The famous scientist demolishing a
much-favored thesis continued:
"Such prominence as the Nordics
have attained is seen On closer ViVW
be due to a series of favoring
roinlitiote and may if history re-
peats itself prove not lasting
"Beginning with the south an 1
progressing gradually northward one
human group after another in the
past has flared into prominence to
retain it for a shorter or longer time
and then invariably to be replaced
by a fre1-her group
"Human progress is not a straight
I ut a relay rare The fresh youth
starts does his best and then com-
mences to slacken and to need rest
at which the burden is taken over by
the next fresh runner Most of
groups of the white race have already
been involved and the history in
general proved invariably the same
"The present torch bearers too
must step aside some 'day to rest
There are perhaps some signs already'
of the approach of this with the
Nordics Other fresh energy-full
groups are looming on the horizon
The torch may in fact have already
liassed to Ow hands of the main of
these—a new world giant Some (lay
the call may come to the still-hound
Russians"
As to the theory advanced by
hat the vorld's geniuses have
been blue or pale-eyed Doctor Hard-
licka had but six vords:
"That of course is not true"
Doctor Hardlicka himself come
under the brown-eyed class Not-
withstanding which the noted scier-
tist as he sat in his office in the new
national museum building in Wash-
ington D C obviously could have
qualified in any "superiority" con-
test ilis scientific work was re-
warded in 1920 by the high honor
of his election to the National Aca-
demy of Science which is limited to
menibers
But: he insisted no consideration
1f racial pride racial animosity or
racial antipathy should govern us in
considering any racial group lie
continued:
"The Nordics are a group of peo-
ple developed in northwestern Eu-
rope They are characterized by
PrIValent blondness higher than
averago stature and medium long
heads They are not a race except
a‘t the term is loosely applied but
at her a group of the Nvhite rare hav-
ing t heir origin in central western

"They represent a development of
a hold 10000 years during which
heir Ilignuntation was modified As
the glaciers in the north retreated

—I he Nordic group as a whole is
the most recent one in the arena of
civilization Five thousand year
ago wh-n the Egyptian or the IN-
livionion represented the peak of

barbarous state Even 2000 years
ago when Rome controlled the world

Is stropping a playful gesture
to amuse you?
Or has the new Valet Auto Strop Razor
proved that there is a fundamental
reason for stropping?
vEs all barbers are insane so are other mills
ions of men if stropping a blade to sharpen
it is useless
But you know that every barber throughout the ens
tire world knows that he nuist strop before he shaves
An unstropped edge is like a row of needles It
pulls and tears the skin
There is one razor and only one which automatis
eally insures a stropped blade for every shave—

Blades are inserted or removed simply by pressing
a button Blades are locked in firm nontlexible
grip that eliminates vibration and pull New type
guard lets you use the full shaving edge And—
fundamentally important—the exclusive self-stropping
feature keeps the blade edge supersharp No
need to remove blade to strop or clean it
Weigh these facts You know barbers haven't been
wrong for 2000 years in stropping Why experi-
