Last Sunday we took one of our
periodical tours of the northwest-
er part of Woods county a ride
that never fails to fascinate us
The terrain is not only pictures-
que but having made those tours
for the past thirty years it is v:sry
interesting to note the changes
wrought over the passing years
Up at the mouth of Hackberry
creek where we used to catch mud-
cats and perch along with an oc-
casional channel cat we stopped
to eat our lunch with the family
It was there during a short walk
we scared up a lone jackrabbit in
fact it was the only one we saw
during our ride Years ago you
could have counted hundreds along
the roadside We think the scarcity
of rabbits now is common all over
the county
--
Wesley Parsons who lives down
close to Greensburozh in what peo-
ple used to call the rabbit country
told us the other day that you
could Nvalk all day now in that
section and he lucky it you scared
up as much as two cottontails
When fsferniam son of Wesley who
(locs col:skim:able baseball pitch-
ing was a t milli boy NVC Wern rab-
bit hunting with him aiid Wesley
one winter day Wes had a small
22 caliber pistol and we took alonfi
a pump un We were to shoot tho
rabbits it they were running and
Wes was I() shoot them n if they
were sittinfl Final score: Wes 21

Lennox started nrestling at the 1 the plum thickets where you used

Also about tha t time duriim the
depression rabbit hunts or drives
bc( Ine quite frequent They were
usually a lied coyote drives but
they would term ma te a Rey hund-

coyotes had been slain
Then rabbits were considered by
many as a plague: 110W the Game
and Fib commission hints that it
will not be too long until there is
a close season on rabbits Already
in the foreign countries there is a
very heavy fine for killing hares
out of season These laws have
been in forces in England and
France for MTV idly years
This sad situation is not only
true of rabbits but other wild game
thong with small birds hawks and
crows Now societies are springing
