Supreme Court referee M J
Northcutt denied a request
Wednesday for another 90 day con-
tinuance nought by a group at-
tempting to block a vote on a con-
stitutional reapportionment peti-
tion Northcutt closed hearings on the
petition and prepared to submit
it to the court
Oklahomans for Local Govern-
ment had asked Northcutt for
more time to check signatures on
the petition
— Northcutt -ruled - the- protesting
groeip had failed to produce evi-
dence of defective aignatures dur-
ing the first 90 days granted
The referee gave both sides 10
days in which to file suggested
findings of fact or conclusions of
law
After Northcutt makes his re-
port the Supreme" Court is expect-
ed to give top priority to the case
and expedite a decision '
If the court finally clears the
petition Gov J Howard Edmond-
son could order it submitted to a
vote at a special election or in
the November general election
It carries 215000 signatures —
with 135473 valid signatures need-
ed to call an election
Oklahomans for Local Govern-
ment claimed the signatures
weren’t sufficient Their protest
prevented the issue from coming
to a vote in primary elections this
month
Ihe petition calls for a vole of
the people on a measure enforc-
ing reapportionment of the legisla-
ture along lines laid out in the
state constitution

Four Pittsburg county 4-H club
boys are working these days pre-
paring 24 broilers which will be
shown May 10 at the fifth annual
Oklahoma State Broiler Show at
Muskogee
Interest in broiler production
Is relatively new fat Pittsburg
county but has won several stal-
wart supporters in recent months
The four boys who plan to enter
the contest at Muskogee are “go-
ing all out” to win honors there
They will not only enter birds
in the junior competition but
also in the open show Entries
there must compete with not only
