IRON MOUNTAIN
Old Iron Mine
Guards Records
!'remi Mom War
UIVINGSTON N Y — There
may not be any gold in the hills
near here but in the depths of an
ancient iron mine in this region
is huried a mass of material which
some big New York firms regard
as being worth more than gold
Within the long-abandoned iron
mine are stored duplicate records
of many "blue chip" corporations
—stored there in a spot-presumed
to be really safe from the havoc
of an atomic war
Herman Knaust known to his
neighbors as the Mushroom
King" because he made a fortune
raising that product bought the
mine and the approximately 100
acres atop it for $9000 back in
1936 He named it Iron Mountain
In those days Mr Knaust was
seeking more space to grow
mushrooms But through the years
he was impressed by comments
from business associates and
neighbors who remarked Iron
Mountain had great possibilities
as a storage place
Started in 1950
It was December 26 1950 when
Mr Knaust got going and eight
months later the dynamiters and
construction crew had finished
their work Iron Mountain Atomic
Storage corp was ready for busi-

AARONSBURG Pa — In this
peacend Centre county hamlet of
Icss than 400 people the entire

evcnt recently which just three
years ago attracted 30000 people
It was "the Aaronsburg story"
conmemorating a long-ago lesson
in religious understanding — the
giving of land by a Jew Aaron
Levy to a Lutheran congregation
so that the community named in
his l!onor would have a Oaf's to
Three years ago that re-dedicatic
was a community event But
so great was its impact that every-
