SWIMMING POOL has been
high on the list of needed civic
improvements here for many
years
Back in 1938 it was up close to
the top of the list of needed im-
provements made up by a survey
of the citizens of the city
Now it appears that we will be
swimming in the pool on the first
warm days this year The exca-
vation has been completed and
forms are going into place as
fast as weather will permit
The first payment $5000 has
been made and the second in the
same amount will be due when
the shell is poured Weather per-
mitting that is scheduled for Wed-
nesday of next week
Now is the time for all workers
to turn in the funds they have
secured for the project Several of
the block captains have not re-
ported as yet and the money is
needed
Now is also the time for all
groups individuals and businesses
to pay the unpaid pledges
With Youth Incorporated getting
$800 credit for the excavation and
credit for other material and la-
bor donated the total cost may
be reduced somewhat below the
estimated price but it will still
take a lot of effort to keep the
cash coming as fast as construc-
tion proceeds
CHARLES FREE Idabel got
one souvenir out of his tragic fire
last week
The fire and terrific heat de-
stroyed the entire contents of his
shop Among the items lost was
a stack of 45 rpm records The
record on top remained fiat im
the center but the groved portion
curled upward and cooled in a un-
iform series of waves resembling
a molded ash tray
Free is having the record set in
glass to preserve it in its present
form
The name of the record inci-
dentally is:
"Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"
1M PROVEM ENTs are coming
last in our city
Kirk's store is having the awn-
ing redone and new display cas-
es are going into place inside the
store
Gra nd Leader is 'having the
awning redone
Work is progressing rapidly on
the new Magnolia station on north
Central
And even more modernization
and improvements are planned for
the next few weeks
Our city is keeping pace with
the times
PRE-EASTER parade brought
one of the biggest crowds to town
in recent history
It was a good parade and we
believe everyone had a good time
watching it It is a good thing
the parade route was so long or
those attending would not have
been able to find standing room
to see it
Our only regret is that the cir-
cus attendant would not let Elmer
Poteet ride the lead elephant

FIRST ANNUAL PRE-EASTER PARADE last Friday brought
many thousands of visitors to Idabel In addition to the local
entries the Kelly Miller Brothers circus animals and equipment
made up much of the parade
Streets and sidewalks were lined over the (nth° parade
route and it was so long that it doubled back into itself after
making a six-block loop
The retailers committee sponsor of the event was pleased
with the parade the crowd and the enthusiasm Elmer Poteet
committee chairman was not allowed to ride an elephant as
