rIhis weeic the editor of the
News did something that no
merchant in the town would do
we refused to run a page ad for
Kenedy Bros of Enid Now
if an Enid man had desired to
buy one fourth of the stock of
any store in Carmen the mer-
chant would not only have
gladly sold him the goods but
would have given a discount
on taking the bill and probably
would have entertained him and
paid his car fare During the
past month we have refused to
run Share Bros advertising
from Alva and just before the
holidays Dunnington & Hals-
tead wanted one to two pages
in the News but loyalty to the
local business men prevented
us from accepting any of the
flattering offers
The News has a very loyal
support from the Carmen busi-
ness men but there are some

stores here that live off from
the overflow of the stores that
advertise and send out induce-
ments to get trade
It makes the News editor not
alone tired but disgusted to see
people who are in business or
getting their living ofE from the
people in and around Carmen
going to Enid or Wichita and
buying goods the farmer has
some excuse for sending away
for goods but the business man
or man who lives in town and
gets his living from local mer-
chants has no business sending
away for a single article that
is what builds cities if we do
not have co-operation and stick
together it will only be a short
time until everbody will be
Bending away for things that
they can buy at home

PRESENT COST OF THE WATERWORKS
At this particular time much is being said pro and con re-
garding the water works construction and on Thursday we pro-
cured the following figures from records on file with the town
clerk' It will be noticed that it has already cost $2875722 but
the O’Neal Engineering Co have given a bond for $10000 that
it will not cost to exceed $28000 so it will be seen - that from
now on the O’Neal Engineering Co' will have it to pay for

The consolidation of the Car-
men and adjoining districtsl
could be made a grand success
if a business course was added
where actual business includ-
ing short hand and typewriting
was taught It would be of far I
more benefit to the Eighth
