One of the best ball games - of
the season was played at Tupel®
Saturday afternoon between the
“Reds” and the “White-Socks”
two local teams which ended in
a victory for the boys in red
The game was called at 3 o’clock
with Breedlove and Bohanan as
umpires Higgins and Mathews
battery for the “Reds” Bohanan
and Epps for “White-socks’
At the end of the ninth inning
the score stood two and two and
it was necessary ' to play the
1 enth inning The ‘Whites’ took
the bats and were shut out the

BIGSC HOOL MEETING
School Will Start On Next Monday August
15— Get Ready
Quite a large and enthusiastic
crowd met at the school house
last Saturday night for the pur-
pose of deciding on something
definite about our sohool Prof
McRay was present and address-
ed the meeting for a short time
giving a brief outline of his man-
ner of conducting a school which
was very much appreciated and
endorsed by all present The
matter of a school was talked
oyer by all and by request of
Mr McCray by a unanimous vote
it was decided to extend the time
of opening school one week in
order to give the teacher more
of an opportunity to get acquain-
ted with every one The school
will open on next Monday Au-
gust 15 and everyone is reques-
ted to make arrangements and
start their children promptly
Prof McCray is now a perma-
nent resident of Tupelo his inter-
est is here his home is here his
work is here and with the prop
er encouragement from our peo-
ple will no doubt build up a school
that will be a beaconing light to
the parents of this country and
will be the means of placing Tup-
elo early in the front ranks of
educational towns

Last Saturday J Mathis open-
ed his meatmarket in his new
house between the postoffice and
the Tupelo Drug Co’s Store
This is a much needed institution
and is welcome by everyone
with delight Mr Mathis is run-
ning an up to date establishment
giving the people good meat and
good measure and is doing a
very satisfactory business Ed
Byers is doing the cutting act
and can turn you off a porter-
house that would make a queen’s
mouth water
