This is Mailbox Improvement Week" in Lawton Postmaster K A McClure
said residents should take some time this week tn repair, repaint and make
other improvements to their mailboxes, in particular those located along ru-
ral. city delivery curb line and highway contract routes “Customers should be
sure their boxes provide adequate protection to the mail and are easily reached
by earners,■' McClure said "That helps speed collection and delivery of
mail "
Approximately 1,600 families in the Lawton area are served by four rural
routes When rural mail service began, many makeshift receptacles, including
tin cans nailed to trees, were used as mailboxes Today, a variety of approved
commerical mailbox designs are provided for use with decorative posts Cus
lowers who prefer custom made mailboxes may check with the Lawton Post
Office for approval. McClure said
