is passed by Jan 17 permitting the tui-
tion hikes, colleges and universities
would be faced with a $9 million to $10
million deficit, requiring an emer-
gency appropriation by the legislature
The tuition bill was assigned directly
to the calendar Wednesday by House
Speaker Bill Willis, D-Tahlequah, in-
stead of to a standing committee in an
attempt to speed its progress through
the legislature
House passage clears the the way for
Senate action, possibly sending the bill
to the desk of Gov. David Boren early
next week
“This bill is almost identical to fees
being charged now." Willis told House
members before the final vote He did
explain that the fee amounts were
rounded off to the highest dollar so re-
gents could increase some fees by 25 to
75 cents per credit hour if desired
Dr E T Dunlap, state regents
chancellor, said today that if the bill
passes and is signed into law regents
will stay with the fee schedule voted in
June
in imposing the fees in June, regents
went to a new system in which stu-
dents in higher classifications of work
will pay a higher fee In the past, there
was a flat per-hour charge at an in
stitution regardless of the student
classification
Regents said most state students
have now paid up to the $500 limit at
this time, but would probably reach
the break point when enrolling for the
second semester
But medical students and out-of-state
students have already reached the
maxiumum and unless the legislature
acts in time those students would not
owe any more fees
Dunlap said the projected shortage if
the fee was not changed would mean a
loss to colleges of $5 million from out-
of-state students alone
Prior to last semester, all students
at the University of Oklahoma and Ok-
lahoma State University paid $12 25

fied.”
The number of doctor visits annually
was another item asked in the survey.
More than 47 per cent of those re-
sponding said they visited a physician
five times or less each year, five to 10
times 12 6 per cent; 10 to 20 times, 7.4
per cent, 20 to 30 times 2 9 per cent
and those visiting a doctor more than
30 times per year numbered less than
one per cent
A related survey topic questioned
persons about what type of family doc-
tor they preferred
More than 65 per cent said they had
a family doctor and used the doctor on
a regular basis These same people
also chose by an overwhelming margin
the use of medical doctors as opposed
to osteopathic doctors
Persons expressing this opinion said
the reason for the choice was they felt
they received better care from MDs
than from DOs
Only 24 per cent of the people sur-
veyed said they had used a chiroprac-
tor for health care
The people questioned also said they
turned out in high numbers for a phys-
ical checkup, but when the same
people were asked if they have regular
examinations the number fell off by
nearly one-third
