Dear Soapbox,
I don’t quite know how to begin this, but my letter concerns the
damage being done to the day lily bed at the police station. I know that
the building needed a new roof, and I was assured that the men working
on the roof are trying to do as little damage as possible.
I must say, however, that when Harold Gregory reroofed my house he
had to tear off a lot of old material and redeck. He put a chute from the
roof down to his truck so that my landscaping would be protected.
I guess that it will somehow be acceptable to mourn the day lilies and
the thirty-five plants that will have to be trimmed and reset and all the
beautiful blooms just ready to burst open that we will not see this year.
I feel that an apology is in order to all those people who worked so
hard to make the day lily bed a reality. To Skip Dixon, First Heritage
National Bank, State Bank of Wynnewood, the Garden Club, Buddy
Musgrove and the Girl Scouts, I am sorrier than I can say. Mike Grissom
and I did the dirty work, but without the help of the others, we would not
have made it
So we will wait to repair the damages after the roofers are gone and try
again. We have had so many calls from people telling us how wonderful
the day lily bed at Old City Hall looks, we have the encouragement we
need to go on with it
