Today as local sixth graders anticipate a new year and a new
decade as pre-teens, it’s a bit confusing for them to imagine that
in just 10 short years when they again await a new year, a new
decade, they will perhaps be tomorrow’s leaders.
Of course, this may appreciably change their lists of New
Year’s resolutions, too!
Today, they’re concerned with school grades, feeding the dog,
doing the dishes, not “picken on my little sister” and a few
hope to be more regular correspondents with their fathers
through the APO address which means Vietnam in some cases.
One thing will not change in 10 years, though, should the
students again re-value their lists made late in 1969. That is the
earnestness in which each item on the list is thoughtfully con-
sidered — the values, the work involved, the privileges which
M'GOSH, WHAT A LIST! Sam McDaniel, sixth grade teacher at Howell Ele-
mentary School, checks the list — the long, long, looonnnng list — of New
Year’s resolutions being made by Mike Tabbytite. "What tha?" he exclaimed.
Mike's parents are Darrell Shay, Lawton, and Mrs. Beverly Shay, 2330 Evans.

may result ... or the dire consequences, — and the plan for
following through.
Figuring local sixth grade students were neither experienced,
enough to restrict their lists nor mature enough to aim at polish-
ed lists for artful effect rather than truthfulness, we found this
an ideal age to suggest that the writers be a bit creative and
uninhibited in making their resolutions.
The results were delightful, darling, misspelled sometimes,
strange but also excellent guides for oldsters (this includes any-
one over 11) making New Year’s resolution lists. The following
ideas were obtained from students of Pecan Grove, Western
Hills and Howell Elementary Schools.
