Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and
Tulsa. That, however, does not
mean they cannot be transferred
out of state, but that the courses
are tailor made for completion at
OU, OSU, and TU.
As stated earlier, Eastern has the
only stereo plotter for student use
in Oklahoma. The plotter is used to
take aerial photographs which
determine road sites and center
lines, to photograph heavily
wooded regions for harvesting by
foresters and for a number of other
engineering motivated endeavors.
will be responsible to submit,
before May 10, an application, a
personal statement of academic
goals and background information
of one page or less and two letters
of recommendation, one from the
applicant's former chemistry
teacher. Further information is
available by contacting Hoyt
Duncan in the Science building.
The department also offers a
two-year degree in chemistry
technology, of which there is quite
a demand for people completing
the two years.
In addition, the course offers 26
hours of organic chemistry, more

Science departments at Eastern
are renown statewide for their
academic proficiency and are
respected by the state universities
more than any other, junior college
in Oklahoma.
The Chemistry department,
headed by Freida Jones, is one of
the best in the state. And to make
it even more appealing, any high
school senior planning a major in
chemistry will be eligible for a $300
scholarship, the schools first in this
field.

Eastern's Library now boasts having
approximately 28,500 volumes and
expects more before the end of the
fiscal year However, books are
only one of the many study aids
that the library has to offer.
Three shadowscopes are available
for student use. These devices are
used to determine the number of
words a student reads per minute.
The shadowscopes may also be used
to increase one's reading late.
Record players, tape recorders,
film loop projectors and cassette
tapes recorders are also available.
Mrs. Johnson feels that the
library has "a real fine collection of
records, tapes, film loops and
cassettes "
A career information center is
located on the landing between the
first and second floors of the
library building The center
contains various books and catalogs
with listings of job opportunities
and careers.
Four conference rooms are
located on the second floor of the
Library building and recently two
typewriters have been added that
students may check out and take to
the conference rooms.
Thirty carrels, enclosed tables for
individual studies, as well as
numerous open study tables are
located on the second floor.
A Xerox machine is also available
for students' use at 10 cents per
copy.
Regardless of the many study
aids, books are still the main
feature of Eastern's Library.
The extensive reference area of
the Library recently added a 15
volume set of McGraw Hill
students may select reading
material from the 23 newspapers
and 240 periodicals received by the
Library.
A "new book" shelf on the
second floor contains new books as
they are processed. This makes it
more convenient for the students to
see what new books are coming
out.
The Library also houses an
international corner. This area is
devoted to the literature of
Eastern's international students and
receives from Iran a weekly paper,
Kayhan, which is printed in
English.
A rare book room and the
listening lab are housed on the third
floor of the library.
The Library is certainly "not just
books any more" and it provides
many conveniences to aid Eastern
students in their studies.

Each year Wilburton's Lion club
makes possible 50 scholarships for
Eastern students and area high
school seniors who have
outstanding scholastic records and
excel in other fields. For the past
18 years the club has solicited
funds for this project, which
amounts to $5,000 every year
Club members ask for funds
from local businesses and interested
individuals who want to see Eastern
progress. The money is then given
to the college scholarship program.
Purpose of awarding senior's
scholarships is to interest the top
