dormitory, occupied this fall,
houses 156 men.
“Jim always worked untir-
ingly as Eastern’s physical
plant engineer and industrial
education instructor from
1955 until his death Feb. 2,
1966,” Pres. J. N. Baker,
said.
He was born in Commerce,
Texas and lived in Wilburton
for the past 10 years. Prior
to Joining the Eastern faculty,
he taugb n schools in Fort
Worth, '..seo, Wichita Falls,
Texas and Red Oak.
For over 10 years he was
responsible for the multitudi-
nous repairs and improve-
ments that daily confront a
rapidly-growing institution
such as Eastern.
“Salmon believed that only
smoothly operating facilities
would enable the proper edu-
cation Job to be done and “he
saw to it” regardless of the
hour or the personal sacri-
fice.
“Heading the maintenance
program alone would have dis-
couraged most, but Jim found
time and energy to instruct
auto mechanics courses and
to serve on various faculty
committees, and a number as
chairman.
“Jim Salmon believed in
being of service to his church,
civic and educational organi-
zations and was recognized
as a person who could not do
enough for those around him,”
Dr. Baker said.
In recent years he was
elected a deacon in the First
Baptist church at Wilburton,
president of the college edu-
cation association and to num-
erous positions of responi-
bilitv.
Salmon’s widow, Sarah Sal-
mon, is a member of East-
ern’s English department.

Naming at the new boys’ dormitory became official Friday
when the dormitory was named the “JAMES A. SALMON HALL”
in memory of the late James A. Salmon, physical plant en-
gineer and member of the faculty. The Board of Regents for
• A&M Colleges adopted the new name at the monthly meeting of
