“The Delaware Weekly Regis-
ter which was peeved because the
Coffey ville papers didn't print
the story of the Big Hill shoot-
ing like the Register had it' is
now beefing because the papers
have copied an article from an-
other paper saying that the
Prairie had abandoned a deep
test well near Delaware The
Register claims we are in error
But the Register should bear in
mind that a daily paper can’t
wait a week for the fount of
knowledge to spout”
The above is from the Coffey-
ville Daily Except Sunday and
Holidays Journal and sounds as
though we might have got tinder
its hide As a matter of fact
just to keep history straight the
Delaware Register isn’t “peeved”
because the Journal didn't print
the same version of the Blue
Canyon tragedy as the Register
albeit the Register printed ttje
only accurate story but we
merely remarked that if the
Journal only 17 miles away pro-
fessing to be a real daily had had
entetprise enough to send one of
its staff of reporters here it
might have printed facts instead
' of the garbled account it did
print Th6 southern suburb of
Delaware sees' fit to misrepre-
sent the town people on all oc-
casions even to' crediting its
surplus bad men to this place
and the Coffeyville papers are
prone to copy it all sometimes
giving credit more often not
We are surprised that the Jour-
nal should not only take delight
in misrepresenting Delaware
bnt also refuse to correct the
misrepresentation Delaware is
old enough and Vigorous enough
to take care of herself but does
object to being Blurred by her
neighbors At least we will
give them credit for not saying
that the bunch of outlaws were
citizens of Delaware! '
Seems like Oklahoma hasn’t
got a monopoly On legislative
freaks Some geezer by the
name of 0 B Jewett has intro-
duced a bill in the Kansas legis-
lature making it a fine of from
$10 to $25 to smoke a cigar cig-
arette or pipe in any public place
or in fact any place but a place
especially outfitted for such pur-
pose We will gamble that bill
has a fat chance to not become
a law
The new department official
who commended a signal quarter-
master for knocking down a fel-
low who wiped his feet on the
U S flag did exactly right says
the Coffeyville Journal The
fellow who was so indiscreet as
to wipe his feet on old glory de-
serves just what he got and the
whole nation will applaud Peo-'
pie will have to learn that aside
from Mexican bandits no one has
any right to disrespect our flag
or insult this nation’s honor!

The Lincoln McConnell Evange-
listic Campaign in Nowata was
launched Sunday in a great dem-
onstration of interest which in-
dicates success from the very
start Despite the bleak cold
wind from the north fully 700
people greeted Mr McConnell in
the afternoon and over 1000 at
night At exactly 2:30 p m
the choir with 100 persons in it
began the song service with Geo
L Dibble as director The suc-
cess of the musical end of the
campaign is assured
But the real attraction of the
two services Sunday was in the
two masterly addresses of Mr
McConnell who at once ingrati-
ated himself into the graces of
the 1700 who heard him yester-
day The general expression on
all lips was “Isn’t he great?’’
“He will make good” “He is
just the man for the evange-
listic campaign” Eloquent pa-
thetic logical and humorous Mr
McConnell soon had the utmost
attention of his entire audience
Convulsing them with laughter
one minute and the next minute
tears were streaming from hun-
dreds of eyes The appeal to the
reason judgment intelligence
and common sense of the hearer
was dominant in every point
