J A Phipps pastor
Recent visitors to tbe chamber
were: JJ P Ward accompanied by
J D Kane and H R Allen both of
Tulsa and very prominent oil men
They were looking into the pros-
pects in thig part of the state and
state that from surface and other in-
dications that quite an oil field will
be developed in this vicinity in the
near future and that by aU means
the test well should be drilled to a
depth of three thousand feet if nec-
essary but they do not believe that
this depth will have to be drilled to
bring in a commercial find and fur-
ther stated that by all means 'every
effort within the power of 1 the’ citl-
zen8 of this city should be concentrat-
ed behind! this test weU proposition
and help bear the burden of ex-
pense and later enjoy the prosperity
that it is going to bring to this city
and county
splendid progress is being made at
the 'well at this time the aew cable
has been put on and tbe first even-
ings drilling reached a depth of 20
feet and yesterday in half a day 15
feet was drilled and all of the ma
chinery is working fine Every indi-
cation is that oil is - assured
as the rock strata has been passed
the shale strata has been passed and
tbe drill is now in black sands that
Immediately preceed the oil find
For the- information of the public we
want to say that the same stratas
drilled through at this time are just
the same ' as those - drilled through
at Fort Smith when they brought in
oil
Lucian G Webb of Grant was a
caller at the chamber rooms yes-
terday and !was ' very optimistic
about the conditions prevailing in
bis city1 and ‘surrounding ‘community
and that the farmer are working
with a will as never - before coup-
ling brains with muscle for the best
results - jy- 5a
We are receiving - a great number
of communications from the manu-
facturing world about the location’ of
our different manufacturing plants-in
our city as we have strongly advo-
cated that the two big points in
ft
favor of manufacturing plants here
Were settled in ‘regard’ to railway
facilities and water and that the
fuel problem -would be settled later
on We hate furnished each appli-
cant with proper information and
asked personal Inspection by their
irepressntatlvea Wo also have a
good prospect for a othmerdal1 col-
lege by a party that is able to make
It a success having all' of ills own
