SCHOOL NOTES j
Waldow Lauhorn was absent
from school Monday
We understand that we will
receive our report cards every
six weeks instead of every four
weeks as we have been ac-
customed to do
This year whenever a pupil
makes an average of 75 per cent
he is subject to promotion and
when he falls below 75 per cent
he is subject to demotion There-
fore it behooves the pupils to
study
Everybody enjoyed the half
holiday they had on Thursday on
account of the show Such an
event is educational and very
entertaining to children
Gladys Grim and Gladys Dow-
ell were absent from school Mon-
day Sallisaw has a school that she
should be proud of and everyone
should try to make it better
They can do it by sending their
children to school
Some people look at the school
teachers ss being nothing but
teachers but they are more than
that They are business men
and their business is to help make
strong men and women out of
your boys and girls The school
is a business institution and
should be run as such
Filipino Delicacies
The Filipinos may be Ameri-
cans but the have some ideas
shout what are edible delcacies
that do not fully conform with
our ideas at home says the In-
dianapolis News Some of these
tastes they communicate to the
Americans that come to them
Feme of the Americans are
now able to enjoy duicede cocoa
whieh is a condition of thick
carabao milk spoiled eggs and
brown sugar and some can even
relish! lie eggs that are boiled
just about two days before the
hatching point has been reached
The Filipino justifies the delica-
cy on the ground that eggs thus
prepared are chicken just a little
younger tbe-i other people eat it
Another c iiimuiicated taste is
that ror roast python the News
continues Dr Frank W Fox-
worthy has just received a letter
from his brother F W Fox-
worthy who is well known in
Indianapolis in which he says:
“Curran the director of the
government agricultural station
at Los Banos and I are prepar-
ing for a treat We are going
to have roast python for dinner
About two o’clock last night the
cook was badly scared because a
snake was getting his chickens
It killed two before Curran reach
ed it with his bolo It is a fine
specimen of python reticulatu9
and measures ten feet five in
ches - We have taken out
enough for our needs and are
preparing the remainder for the
college museum For more than
six years Curran and I have been
in the bosque (country) a great
deal and have tried to get roast
python but we have never suc-
ceeded until this morning The
meat is light colored— like chick-
en breast It fairly makes your
mouth water to look at it”
Other Filipino delicacies are
mongrel dogs eaten' by the Ig-
orrottes who extract the blood
and fry it in straw Various
kinds of creeping things are eat-
en by the Moros Some of the
members of the Chinese com-
munity in Manila are said still to
look' with favor on rice worms
which after all are not much
worse than eel and it is possible
that some of the poorer as in
Canton eat rats which sell at
about 4 cents a kattp or apound
and a third
Mr Luther of near Hanson
was killed by a freight train Sat-
urday morning It is said that
the deceased was lying between
the rails and was seen too late
for the engineer to stop the train
Just what he was doing on the
track at that hour we have been
unable to learn He leaves a
wife and several children
This office has just finished a
job of diserptive circular of Salli-
saw Sequoyah county Oklahoma

with their real estate business

ing much toward advertising
Sallisaw and incidentally are do-
ing a flourishing real estate and

The Word “Yes”
“Yes” is a simple word spelled
with three letters
It has caused mrre happiness
and mire unhappiness than any
other word in the language
It has lost more money for
easy lenders than all the holes in
all the pockets in the world
It has started more diploman-
iacs on their career than all the
strong liquor on earth
It has caused more fights than
all the “You’re aliars” that ever
were spoken
It has procured kisses and pro-
voked blows
It has defeated condidates and
elected scoundrels 4 ' !
It has been" used in more lies
than any other expression
It is not meant half the time it
is said
Will it continue to make such
a record?
