With Carter on the sidelines, Dick Hoover, only two-

DES MOINES (—Don Carter of St. Louis, the de-
defending champion, bowed out of the 12th annual Amer-
ican bowling congress masters tournament Tuesday but
not before demonstrating why he's generally regarded
the world's greatest bowler.
Dropped to the loser’s bracket during the afternoon
by Don Ellis, 841-804, Carter came back in the next round
with a world record 1084 total, finishing with a 300 game.
Carter’s stint of 268, 256, 260 and 300 eclipsed the
one-day-old mark of 1051 set by Ray Bluth.
Bluth, who lost his first match Monday then won
twice in the loser's bracket to stay alive, got the first
perfect game in masteri’ finals history Sunday.
Carter admitted he "had a letdown" following his
brilliant round. He lost to Eddie Jackson, 949-776.
But that was after he set these masters record: 40

A new fishing report was
started Tuesday by the Ok-
lahoma Wildlife Conserva-
tion Department.
Roy Stafford, director,
said the report is designed
to give sportsmen informa-
‘ tion on the water, wind,
weather and fishing condi-
tions at lakes across the
state.
A new radio network in-
stalled by the department
makes the report possible.
Rangers stationed at the
various lakes radio current
information to department
headquarters at the capitol.
"The purpose of this re-
port is to try to assist sports-
men in being able to go fish-
ing when and where the con-
ditions are more favra-
