They told other members on

A 41-year-old Oklahoma City
man on whom an artificial kid- )
ney was used at Mercy Hospital
was reported in serious condition
Thursday. ?
He had worsened somewhat
since Wednesday, when the ma-
chine took over the job of the
patient’s own kidney for several
hours.
However, doctors were still
hopeful of saving his life. He had
swallowed a toxic agent, which
caused crystalization of excre-
tory products in the lower tubules
of the kidney.
When he was brought to the
hospital, he was in danger of
complete k idney failure, which
would result in death. After
several hours on the pump, his
blood urea nitrogen dropped con-
siderably and he became rational
for the first time since suffer-
ing the kidney shutdown.
