cial)—Telephone workers at the
Wichita Falls district have voted 388
to 20 to strike Monday midnight for
the wage increase demanded from
Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.
The union contract expires Mon-
day. The Communication Workers of
America (CIO) seeks a 10 percent pay
hike for all employes. The Wichita
Falls district includes Wichita Falls,
Bowie, Burkburnett, Childress, Ora-
ham, Henrietta, Jacksboro, Quanah,
Iowa Park and Vernon.

trading dull, the stock market stepped
backward Monday
Changes were fractiona among
leaders on the minus aids, and there
were major areas whore prices re-
mained unchanged for considerable
periods.
Rolls were mixed. The wide-moving
Nickel Plate opened off 4 points at
200. That was by far the blegest de-
dine and was of course not char-
acteristic of either the railroad sec-
tion or the market as a whole. Nor-
folk * Western added % at.47%.
Steels and rubbers were unchanged
to a trifle lower. Chemicals were
mixed but mostly higher.
Automobiles, although hugging the
downside, apparently drew bo selling
as a result of the order by the na-
tional production authority in Wash-
ington limiting the amount of metal
that will be available to motor-makers
in the third quarter.
Some of the dry areas in the north-
west got moisture over the weekend.
Parts of Texas received very heavy
rains. Skies were clear over the Kan-
mm wheat belt Monday morning. Har-
vesting of the new crop should pick

the grain pits Monday on the board
of trade. As a consequence, the mar-
ket sold off around a cent or more
in an unusually dull seselon.
The buyers apparently went into
hiding because at peace rumors.
Growth of a retail price war, with a
number of department stores trying
to undersell one another, wasn't the
kind of thing to encourage a belief
that inflation was still rampant.
Wheat was trading 11 to cents
lower, July 82.37%; com 1% to 1%
lower, July 81.73%; oats % to %
lower, July 12: soybeans 134 to 2% '
cents lower, July $3.22, end lard un-'
changed to 18 cents a hundred pounds'
lower, July 816.85.

The three old soldiers who at-
tended the five-day gathering,
which had been billed as the final
reunion of the United Confederate
Veterans, have promtoed to join the
Sons of Confederate Veterans at the
SCV’s annual meeting at Jackson,
Mis., next June.

The three veterans, each 105 years
old, were as chipper as they could
be at the conclusion of the strenu-
ous reunion, Dennts said. They are
William D. Townsend, of Olla, La.,
John Balling, of Slant, Va., and Wil-
liam Joshua Bush, of Pitzgerald,
Ga.
"All three promised to join us
at next year’s meeting, which will
be held at Jackson about June 10,"
Dennis told a reporter Sunday. He
added: "As long m one veteran to

crate Veterans will have him as their
