After a weekend recess, members of the county grand jury Mon-
day resumed investigation of county road contracts. Four witnesses are
scheduled to testify during the day. ,
Jurors also called for claims and other official county records
involving certain contracts let by county commissioners. The Mme
documents were studied by a grand jury last autumn before it dead-
plants be allowed to build at
least 1,100,000 cars snd 275,000
trucks in the third quarter.
Continuing, Automotive News
says:
“However, auto industry peo-
ple in Detroit think the third
quarter materials situation will •
be good enough to permit car
and truck production at higher
than defense transport adminis-
(ration (DTA) recom menda- ’
tions.
'"Military procurement Won't
be chewing up any more ma-
terials than it is now,’ said one
plant official. 'And materials
should be running nut of the na-
tion's ears in the third quarter
of this year.’
The paper quotes another in-
dustry official aa saying:
"'Preliminary allocations for
the third quarter will probably
be in line with DTA's recommen-
dations. However, a few weeks
later the defense planners will
likely find that they can dole
out even more metals for car
output just as they did for the
second quarter of this year."’
