"And You Believed All This?” Asks
Frank in Amazement at the Story
"In a moment." said Ellen frantically— please."
He went out and left them.
About ten minutes later Ellen came out to him in the livingroom He
was walking up and down, chewing savagely on an unlit pipe. "What in
heavens is it all about?" he began, this girl . . . Ellen . .
"She's half asleep." said Elen. "I thought you'd Jet her rest a minute
before I took her home.' She went on. "I know I owe you an explanation,
Frank. I'm so ashamed. . . ."
He was gentler with her now, made her sit down, sat down beside her
on the couch. But he was angry with bewilderment.

State Asks Right to Take
Lexington Span.
W C. Lewis, assistant attorney gen-
eral, was in Washington, Monday to
launch another move to get the
United States supreme court to au-
thorize the state to take over the Lex-
ington-Purcell toll bridge
With a petition for a writ of cer-
tiorari pending, asking a review of the
tenth circuit court of appeals ruling
to enjoin state officials from seizing
the bridge, Lewis will file a direct ap-
peal with the supreme court Tuesday.
.Both petitions alleged the circuit
court upheld a perpetual franchise, in
violation of the state constitution, but
the appeal was prepared to carry on
the legal battle in event the writ is
denied.
