Dear Colleen:
Beer and liquor were once
outlawed. Is it likely that one
day all this fuss about “pot”
will die down and it will be-
come legal?
Dear Jack:
There may be some merit
in what you believe, but it
would take the wisdom of
Solomon to decide the age at
w hich a particular boy or giri
would be ready to adjust to
the news that the mom and
dad they had known all their
lives were not true parents. I
have known instances w here
children who were told early
inlifethat they were adopted
made remarkable adjust-
ments, but it doesn't always
work this way Sometimes,

confrontations occur when a
true parent decides he or she
wants the return of a child
they gave up for adoption
years ago. This occurrence
is particularly distressing
when the child has come to
love the only couple he or she
knows as mom and dad. I
don't know much about a-
doption laws and they prob-
ably differ among the states.
Had I been an adopted child,
I believe I would have wanted
to know somewhere down
the line, but I don't know
when I would have been ready

Calling Colleen
Dear Colleen:
Why do couples who adopt
infants believe they should
keep the adoption a secret
forever? I recently heard of
a case where a man forty-two
years of age learned for the
first time that he was adopt-
ed when he was less than one
year old it would seem to
me that people who adopt
children when they are in-
fants should be requited,
when these children reach a
certain age. to tell them the
identity of their true parents.

Dear Sammy:
Who can say? In some
areas of the country, people
have run for public office on
a platform to legalize pot.
But, again, some people wo-
uld still outlaw beer and bour-
bon if they could.
