~INCINNATI, Ohio, Oer. 28.—An etraordinap story of an egE
— laying, female dove that was completely chanzed into a male
through a tuberculosis injection, was told today to the American
Society of zoologists by Dr, Oscar Riddle, of the researeh staff at
the Carnegie station for experimental evolution, Cold Springs Har
bor, Long Island, X. V.
Doctor Riddle declared (lint investigations carried on during
several years have proved that sex can be changed in the earliest
or egg-stage of the pigeon, but that a reversal of sex in a full
grown bird or animal is an exceedingly rare occurrence.
He concluded from the result of the experiment with the dove
in the case depicted that "it becomes wholly probable that all
hereditary characteristies of every human being anti of every or-
ganism are capable of reversal and modification and that I he ae-
complishment of this merely await* the definitely directed efforts
of investigators in this branch of science."
The bird concerned in the story told by Doctor Riddle was a
female blond ring dove, like thousands of others studied. She was
laying eggs for a period and then the laying ceased. Later the bird
assumed the sex behavior of a male dove. Still later, the speaker
said, the former female developed the crow of the trock pigeon.
During this period the body weight increased so that it came to he
morely nearly that of a male pigeon.
"The resiilt clearly indicates," Doctor Riddle declared, "that the
hereditary basis of no bodily or mental characteristic may be con
sidered as irrevocably lived and uncontrollable,"

Of all known drugs, creosote is rec
ognized by the medical fraternity as
the greatest bealing agency for the
trentment of chronic coughs and colds
and other forms of throat and lung
troubles. Creomulsion contains, in ad-
dition to creosote, other healing ele-
ments which soothe and heal the in
flamed membranes and stop the irri-

creosote goes on to the stomach, is
absorbed into the blood, attacks the
seat of the trouble and destroys the
germs that lead to consumption,

Charles McPherren of Durant for
state control of retail gasoline prices
"Competition is the stimulation of

what we want," the governor said imd
discussing the McPherren plan that
th** state corporation commission be
delegated additional power to regu

Shortly before the extraordinary'

printed in the senate journal a com-
munication from the corporation com-
missipn which outlined the steps
necessary to give the commission
power to regulafe the retail gasoline
trade. He stated that he wanted the
communication to awaken legislators
to his proposal so tht they could
study It and offer suggestios when
the legislature reconvened in Nanu-
ary. The governor predicted the forth-
coming session of the legislature will
prove an open season for legislative
subjects. He asserted that personnlly
he would attempt no restrietion on
