tax deadlints has gone up

build up to a great deal more,
Oklahoma Tax Commission
Chairman Clarence DeWees
said this week.
Senate b i! 455 signed into
law March 18, with the eme-
rgency ( iuse making it eff-
ective immediately, author-
izes th tax commission to |
assess a service charge of
four per nt of the amount I
of an returned unpaid
or a minimum of $2 for each
such eneck, he said.
DeWees pointed out that
the new law says: “No rem-
ittance other than cash shall
be in final discharge of liab-
ility due the tax commission
unless and until it shall have
been paid in cash”.
This means that delinque-
ncy periods and all penalties
accuring on late payments
will continue to run until the
bad check is actually replac-
ed with cash, he said.

chant who remits sales tax
collections with a check that

another ten percent penalty
plus one percent monthly in-
terest if he has not come up
with th cash by the 15th of
the next month, said S. W.

director.
Although too late for this
year’s car tag buyers, the
law in future years will mean
double trouble for those
whose checks bounce into tlie1
penalty period.
And those who tradition-

Tax commission officials
said they get between 5,000
and 6,000 bad checks every ,
