A sailor who served during World War
II told Eugene F. Jud an interesting
story about how natives trapped monkeys
on an island where the sailor served.
The natives took earthen jars, with
long narrow necks, and secured them to
the trees that were the habitat of the
monkeys. Then they partially filled these
jars with grain.
At night the monkeys came down from
the trees and reached into the jars to get
the grain; but when they tried to take
their hands out of the jars, they found it
impossible because they had a fistful of
grain. All the monkeys needed to do was
to turn loose the grain, but this they re-
fused to do. They lost their freedom rath-
er than turn loose their little fistful of
grain.
Jesus told us how to keep material
possessions in the proper perspective: “Do
not be anxious then, saying. What shall
we eat?’ or ’What shall we drink?’ or
’With what shall we clothe ourselves?’

This is a sad situation, for despite all the talk |
about a generation gap, much can be gained

young and old; keeping in mind that many
older people once considered their own grand-

and your faith teach you to respect your elders;
so whether it’s your grandparents or others of
their generation whom you encounter, take the
time to listen to them. You will hear some
fascinating stones from them and gain a
greater insight into the events that shaped
the era in which you live today.

They were divorced even
before their marriage
began, it seems. For ?
good marriage to occur,
the two people have to
become one in flesh, mind,
and soul. Sometimes it
requires compromise;
sometimes sacrifice.
Always it takes giving and
forgiving love. The same
thing is true in our relation
to Christ Jesus. In baptism,
Christians marry Him: He
becomes our bridegroom.
But, if we refuse to change,
we are divorced before we
even begin.
