Judge Beckett in his speech
against the capital bill fail to
state that the capitol commis-
sioner claims would first pass
through the state auditor hands
aud he would draw a warrant on
the state treasurer These
commissioners do not get hold
of this $000000 at one time
These commissioners are to
the building fund as the county
commissioners are to the coun-
ty The county commissioners
are only under a $3000 bond
each and often have $40000 or
‘ $50000 under their control
Again our state treasurer is
only under $1000000 bond find
he got $5000 000 the first deal
after statehood and! there was
no graft We are willing to
stand our part of the graft if
there should be any so vote for
the capitol location bill and Okla-
homa City for the capitol
MAN comes into his world
without his aid or consent and
leaves it against his will His
career on earth is marked by
one continuous round of con-
traries misunderstandings and
misrepresentations During
his infancy he is an angel in liis
boyhood days he is a devil in
his manhood he is everything
from a rattlesnake up in his
duties he is a fool if he is single
he is committing race suicide
if he raises a family he is a
chump if he raises a cheeky he
is a thief and the law raises
Cain with him if he is a poor
man he is a poor manager and
no good anyway if he is rich he
is mean but considered smart:
if he is in politics he is a grafter
and a crook if he is out of poli-
tics you can’t place him and lie
is ‘'an undesirable citizen” if he
goes to church he is a hypocrite
if he stays away from church he
is a sinner if he donates to char
ity or missions he is doing it for
show if he doesn’t he is a slm
oy old "tigbt-wad” When lie
first comes into tho world eveiy
body wants to kiss him befoie
he leaves it they aie all jealous
of him and want to kick him
If he dies young there was i
great future for lnm if he lives
to a ripe old age he is only n
tho way and living for contrari-
ness and to save funeral expen
ses His praises are sung aftci
lie is dead

After All —Lx
To hear Guthrie or Shawnee
tell it Oklahoma City’s 07000
people are principally “land
sharks” “grafters” and “char-
latans” We are just as near
nothing as human degeneracy
can approach Like Modcstus
said of Eegulus we are the
bigpist lascals that walk upon
two legs” or as is portrayed
in Don Juan the mildest man
ner'd men “that ever scuttled
ship or cut a throat”
And this sort of stuff is bra
zcnly Haunted in the faces of the
people oi the state as argument
against the adoption of tho pend-
ing capital location bill In it
we find the reason pointed out
why we should vote ‘ No” on
June 11th and permit Guthrie
to hold fast to something which
she will never willingly surrend-
er and incidentally give Shaw-
nee additional time to rccovci
from her recoil enervatincr

cumulate all these pet names
is not ejsv to say Why are we
called "land sharks'” We have
never grabbed an acre of land
which clid not belong to us nor
have we eve' rHned off any real
estate upon the unsuspecting
public which is not worth more
today than it was at the time' it
was sold If so where? Point
it out Give us a definite in-
stance “Grafter” also Where?
When? And how? Truth is
we don’t know We have never
had an opportunity to win our
spurs During either the ter-
ritorial days or since neither
Oklahoma City nor any Okla-
homa City man has been near
enough to the throne to worlt any
sort of a graft upon the people
of the stale If so where?
Point that out also Please cite
a concrete instance
Ana “charlatans” loo' Dear
me! Dear me! Those horrid
things who prate much in their
own favor! Cut common candor
compels the admission that we
are guilty Coen talking about
our town a heap in the past ten
years and have a jump from
10037 population to G74C0 to
show for it So if it is a crime
to talk about our town and do
things most all of us are crimi-
nals But notwithstanding the pot
names we have accumulated
since this capital contest open-
ed why should we not Designate
our Permanent Scat of State
Government at this time so we
may go ahead aud utilize the
time intervening the present
and 1913 in the laying out de-
velopment and disposition oL a
capital city district project and
the erection of a state house
from the proceeds?
Keep this fact always in Mind:
If we vole down the perdin
bill we v ill have Campbell Rus-
sell’s “New Jerusalem” cotton
patch prop'isiton btforc us at
the November election It has
already been iui'iated and must
be voted upon at the next gener-
al election This bill carries an
appropriation of $1000000 in
bead of $'’00000 as provided in
the pending measure If there
is to be graft in cither there
are 400000 more opportunities
for tho same in Campbell Rus-
mil’s scheme than in tho bill
to be voted upon cn June 11th
What have we gained there-
fore if we vote down the pend
ingbill?
The fact is we will have gain
ed nothing We will then have
another capital location contest
on at the general election this
fall and the turmoil gnd strife
incident thereto strung but
over the tnlhc year And we
will also have a bill before us
which in spii it and purpose is
identical with the pending meas-
ure but which makes no provi-
sion for establishing the capital
city district where the lots
therein may bo sold at advanta-
geous figures
There is therefore just one
same practical common-sense
way of settling this capital con-
test so that the tlx-payei s of
the state will be saveu fiom the
expense of a single dollar and
settling i too for all time to
come: Vote for the pending
bill— vote to designate the pi r-
manent seat of state govei nine i-t
