UNDERTAKER CALLED !
FOR LIVE MAN
Mace McAlester Reported Kill-
ed Embalmer Employed
and Casket Prepared
Not Dead
It may have never happened
before but on Tuesday night
Undertaker Arch Strang was en-
gaged to take charge of a corpse
by relatives of a supposed dipad
man and after casket was on
ground it developed that Muce
McAlester a mmer at Adamson
was not dead but had been stub-
bed many times in a bloody free-for-all
fight and had lost enough
blood to prove fatal to two or
three men
Tuesday Mace McAlester one
Malone “Kandy Kid” and a half
dozen Polanders purchased lunch R
at an Adamson store and left Jl or First Baptist Church
Manning to take a holiday It i
is reported that one of the party
had taken on too much Choc
and with the empty jug struck a
fellow picnicker over the head I
and with the handle left worked
on another This started a frde-for-all
and in instant spades an j
ax and a butcher knife we re — — :z z "Tr
brought into play When tihe I
battle was over several of tlhe rests but it could not be learned
combatants had gone and two who had used the knives on Mc-
or three were lying prostrate Alester The wounded man was
bleeding from dangerous wounds born and reared at Hughes and
McAlester was picked up and is the son of Mrs E Hudson
found to have received six or I who lives on West side
eight wounds with a knife and — - — —
appeared all but a live man Re-
latives in Wilburton received Jum a I bought
word that he was dead and Un- Regard your influence as a
dertaker Strang was engaged to treasure house of wonders If
take charge ot the body and
several hours later repaired to 'you do you will comfort those
the scene with casket and em-1 who mourn and guide into
balmer’s equipment Even after flowery fields feet t hat have trod
arriving at Adamson it was ony the the bramble and the
thought by many t McAles- an(j throw down through
ter was dead and a phone 1
mes-
sage from Manning confirmed
the fact A little later however
McAlester was brought over
: from Manning on a cot but not
dead by any means and he de-
manded that he be taken to his
mother’s at Wilburton If Mc-
Alester knew that the coffin in-
tended for him was on the
ground he did not seem to mind
it and rode in the same baggage
car with it into Wilburton
At 9:30 a m Thursday the
wounded man was doing nicely j
but a local surgeon who is at- j
tending him said that either six
of the seven wounds received by
him would have been fatal to any
ordinary man that all but one
found its way to the hollow but
blood clots had formed which
was an advantage and that un
ess other complications arise he this scholarship without a pen-
may pull through It appears nie9 cost to you only a little
that two different knives were work If you are interested come
used on the wounded man to the Democrat office for par-
