Not The Worzt
There was a man who last
week was moving from Wilbur-
ton to another town not more
than a hundred miles away and
by chance met a gentleman the
day before he left who had just
arrived in Wilburton from said
town This out going citizen
landed a few punches on Wilbur-
ton’s lower jaw biffed her under
the eye and soaked a good one
on the point of the chin When
he got through the stranger told
him that he was just from his
prospective home and that it was
the deadest burg in ten states
Dead so dead it had putrified
Why” said he: “Wilburton is a
throbbing thriving city a mad
whirl compared to this town

Chas M Cope the young hnd
brilliant county attorney of
Osage county is going to make
the race for Attorney Geheral o '
Oklahoma If the people of the
state knew him like they do in
Osage there is not another man
in Oklahoma who could make
interesting for him
Oklahoma City is all astir over
a recent entertainment given for
the amusement of the visiting
cattlemen in that city Informa-
tion gathered from sources out-
side the press of Oklahoma City
goes to show that the show in
question would rival the conduct
of the people of old Sodom and
Gomorrah whose wickedness in-
voked the anger of Jehovah It
is favorably noticed that the
good people of the City are tak-
ing steps to bring to justice
those responsible for the crime
which has reflected upon the
good name of Oklahoma and the
decent people of Oklahoma City
The Jeter Meetings
Are you attending the Jeter
meetings at the Methodist
Church? Rev and Mrs Jeter
are not evangelist of the ordi-
nary sort and deserve the atten-
tion and consideration of the
people of this community It
makes no difference if you are
not a Methodist these people are
here to help every man woman
and child in this city and en-
deavoring to point you to a
brighter and better way You
ought to attend these meetings
for in so doing you may become
& better citizen neighbor father
or mother It might cause a
sensation if some of you -should
walk into a church house but
‘you can well afford to be the
‘ subject of comment and the ob-
1 ject of a sensation if you ‘-are
' helped along For a change go

No Fishing Allowed
Monday was a real spring day
and everybody’s thoughts turned
lishingward Someone who lays
claim to a body of water on East
Main street forestalled any at-
tempt on part of fishermen to
Indulge in their favored sport in
this particular body of water by
posting a large and substantia
sign: “No Fishing Allowed”
Someone objected to this prohi
bition claiming that the hogs
which are having more or 1
freedom these days-will muddy
the waters and disturb the fish
besides injuring the water for
stock drinking purposes We
think that fishing should be al-
lowed as it won’t be long until
depredations by cattle and hogs
will destroy the fish anyway
We say let them fish Seine it
put out the trot lines or dynam-
ite it Let the people have the
fish for on account of the high
cost of living those not able to
buy cow liver or hog feet should
be given free rights to this pond
Many Republican and anti-administration
papers are criticis-
ing Wilson’s Mexican policy
Some of this opposition is offer-
ed in good faith and from honest
convictions but the bulk of it we
perceive is inspired by no other
High School Notes
We sure intend to have a pro-
gram next Friday Why? Be-
cause Mr Laws says so
The students are working ear-
nestly for the school meet to he
held April 3d and 4th
We are all going to have an
Arbor Day program here Friday
the 13th
Everybody has sour looking
faces this week Wli? We re-
ceived our report cards They
make us all feel like quitting
school
Grace Whitcotton has been ab-
sent several days this week
The Hilltop Journal will be out
next week
Most of the' bookkeeping stu-
dents have finished the course
The course was supposed to take
three months but on account of
not having very much time it has
taken most of them six months
A very encouraging talk was
rendered by Mr Laws Friday
afternoon about our Literary
Societies and the programs that
were conducted by them
If some of the parents would
see that their children come to
sohool every day there would
not be so much fuss about grades
at the end of the month
Considerable interest seems to
have been oreated among the
younger pupils because of the
revival meetings now being con-

If you haven’t a bank aocount---or
have one and aren’t steadily adding
to it--think of the comfort and sense

old age if you had an ample receive
to fall back on at that time
Why not staH a savings account now?

of thii mutiny
the sake of differing from the
party in power If Wilson were
hot-headed fire-eating Pres-
ident like many claim Roosevelt
would be and by intervention
would involve his country in war
many of these same “champions
of correct policies” would swear
a blue streak because of it So
it is simply a case of “be if
you don’t and be if you do”
It is ten thousand times better to
settle this intricate problem
peacibly than by force even if
there is peril for foreigners in
and nettr the border It is bet-
ter to lose a few Americans here
and yonder and per chance an
Englishman or two than to hoist
the battle flag and march to
Mexico leaving American boys

tims of Greasers bullets' Whip
them? Why yes could lick them

a year but a thousand lives lost
to the American yo&th a billion
dollar debt and a swollen pension
roll would be the unwholesome

Cattle Dying
J Poe was transacting busi1
ness in the hills south of Wilbur-

many cattle dying in that section
for want of feed He counted
six that had starved to 'death
We complain about the high cost
of living but what' if the cattle
could talk and demand their
food? Kelly’s army and Coxy’s
hosts would be a tame problem
