Holbrooke met with Milosevic for
several hours Monday, telling the
Yugoslav president of the "the
grave situation we are facing."
Holbrooke planned to visit the
Kosovo capital of Pristina today for
talks with ethnic Albanian leaders -
several of whom have called for
NATO intervention.
"The military planning is going
forward on a serious, intense and
sustained basis as we talk,"
Holbrooke said after the meeting.
Asked if Milosevic got the message,
Holbrooke said, "Youll have to ask
him that.”
Publicly, however, Milosevic and
his government seemed defiant.
