We doubt the advisability of voting
more bonds now to improve Shannon
Springs park The improvements are
needed but the people are against
more bond issues at present The
present rark board has done wonders
in the improvement of Shannon
Springs Every citizen of Chickasha
is proud of this playground It is the
best swimming pool in the state of
Oklahoma Medicine Park itself not
excepted But we do not believe that
the people should be asked now to vote

J W COMER
Secretary of the Chickasha Chamber
of Commerce
The question is frequently heard
" ‘'What is John Fields’ attitude regard-
ing the Oklahoma College for Wo-
men?" Long before he was a candidate for
governor John Fields wrote the fol-
lowing which appeared in the Okla-
homa Farmer March 10 1922 and
fully answers that query:
"I had a shock the other day— a very
pleasant shock It came while visit-
ing the Oklahoma College for Women
at Chickasha Having noticed the
prevalence of educational jazz in so
many other educational institutions
I had about reached the conclusion
that there is nothing of the real and
substantial left But I was mistaken
“There ig every evidence that the
girls attending the Oklahoma College
for Women— more than 500 of them—
are very fortunate A spirit of
wholesomeness pervades the entire in-
stitution All appears sound and
sensible and real The fact that good
board and pleasant rooms are sup-
plied for $22 a month and that a girl
can get by comfortably on $35 a
month and $50 a month is considered
extravagant indicates how different
from some others this institutions is
“The chief reason for this happy
situation is one man and one woman
President G W Austin and Mrs Aus-
tin Other state institutions get
larger appropriations but this insti-
tution has something which cannot be
conferred by legislative enactment-
sincere devotion to high purpose by
those directing its affairs”
When and where were you born ?
In St Albans Va January 13 1872
What is your earliest recollection?
Parents moved to Wells Minn and
my first recollection is being just tall
enough to look over the window sill
into a path cut through the snow from
the front door to the street the walls
on either side higher than my father’s
head
What was your boyhood ambition?
To be a manufacturer Always
liked to make things to see wheels
whirr and the belts spin and do yet
Why do you make Chickasha your
home ?
Because I like it and know nothing
of any better town
How did you happen to enter your
present business?
I became Secretary of the Chamber
of Commerce because it was without
a secretary and there was no one else
who would have the job
If you could have but two books
what would they be?
The Bible and a dictionary
What are your favorite recrea
tions?
Walking I walk a great deal and
like it Also like to lie in bed late on
Sunday morning and do a good deal
of that too
What do you do that is least to your
liking ?
I do not like to solicit subscriptions
and have a good deal of that
What in your opinion is the best
thing that could be done for Chicka-
sha? Have everybody in it forget that
there is any other town
In a dozen words what is your ad
vice to young men starting but in
life?
The thing that I would say to a
young man is to save part of his earn-
ings invest his savings carefully and
always do the best he can
the years to come and that Gensman
the republican candidate will always
have difficulty in retaining his seat on
the republican side of the house thus
losing to Law-ton the congressman
from this district which honor she has
always enjoyed and claimed as her
own in the past
We feel that the fear of Lawton
that J Elmer will not run two years
from this fall in the event that he is
beaten is entirely groundless The
probabilities are that one who enjoys
the reputation of being one of the most
astute politicians in the country wdll
not quit even on a second defeat as
we feel he will run as long as he has
shoe leather
years before another harvest is gath-
ered The world is getting more set-
tled and before another year Europe
can ones more be eating wheat bread
But we do not believe that wheat
should be sown in half prepared soil

THE GREEN DRIVER
The motoring season is on in full
blast— and so are the accidents And
all over the country this question is
being asked daily: “Whose fault was
it?” In this connection it is interest-
ing to note that a very small percent-
age of accidents are really due to the
“green” driver On the other hand
they can almost always be laid at the
door of the man who has had a car
long enough to know how it should be
operated The new driver is far more
careful than the experienced one be-
cause he is afraid of hurting both him-
self and his car So he looks a long
way ahead keeps well to his side of
the road and takes his time The
“wise guy” who feels he knows more
about a motor car than the men who
build them invites chance to sit on
the seat with him and if he gets
through unscathed actually believes it
was due to his skill Our advice to
auto drivers when out motoring is to
watch the “wise” drivers for there is
not stunt they will not attempt Don’t
the safe side But one of those long
