Star Says Exercise Slashes
Waistline But Not Poundage
By VIVIAN BLAINE
Writtn hr NEA Senrira
Before I five you my plan for
exercising I want it clearly un-
derstood that I do not believe in
exhausting routines which leave
little strength for anything else.
Let's face it. Exercise cant help
you reduce. If you weigh ISO
pounds for example you will only
burn 114 calories per hour at
ironing and there are approxi
matcly 4000 calories in every
pound. In fact you could climb to
the top of the Empire State Build-
ing (2240 steps) and you would
only lose half a pound.
The value of exercise is that it
redistributes your weight and
whittles inches. It goes almost
without saying that sensible daily
exercises tone your muscles and
make you feel better.
I like to wear a bathing suit
while I'm stretching and bending
because it allows me complete
freedom of movement. Low-heeled
or flat shoes of course are a
"must".
One of my favorite exercises
which I gladly pass on to you. is
simple to follow and fine for trim-
ming down the midriff.
All you have to do is stand
with your feet planted firmly on
the floor about three inches apart.
Raise both arms straight out un-
til von reach shoulder height.
Without bending your arms or
moving your legs and hips swing
your arms from left to right
twisting from the waist for at
least twenty times. Feel the pull
in your waist chest and back. This
exercise is excellent for your pos-
ture too.
Even after you have lost all the
weight you want to may I advise
you to keep right on exercising?
It wont take muchm time but will
definitely help to keep you look-
ing and feeling physically fit.
