Hiett agreed that helping the
state's horse industry is impor-
tant but said he opposes tying
that proposal together with the
expansion of tribal gaming.
"Their proposal would help
the tribes but it would be a slap
in the face to the horse indus-
try." said Hiett. noting the pro-
posal would limit the number
and types of games al the tracks.
"By giving the horse industry
very limited gaming and then
swinging the door wide open Ibr
Las Vegas casino style gaming
for the tribes actually increases
the competitive advantage that
the tribes have over the horse
industry."
Hiett also anticipates GOP
resistance to the cigarette tax
proposal. Again, Hiett said
Henry 's plan would offer the
tribes a competitive advantage
over non-tribal tobacco retailers.

The reunion resembled one

Clark also snared endorse-
ments from the Norman Tran-

third- and fourth-1 argest cilies,
respectively.
"Although there are several
qualified and formidable candi-

are toward Retired Gen. Wesley
Clark, a relative newcomer to
the arena of elected leadership
but no stranger to executive
leadership and foreign policy,”
the Transcript said in its editori-

The Constitution also backed
Clark because of foreign policy.
"The retired four-star general
would bring a new perspective
to the ongoing war on terrorism,
even ending the conflicts in Iraq
and Afghanistan sooner rather
than later," the newspaper said.
