The stories which have apper r-
ed in the Hutchinson News and
the Eagle and Beacon the past
week regarding our gas and oil
conditions in this locality may
make interesting reading lor
people not familiar with the situ

very foolish indeed Part of the

Diogenes Heed hunt no longer
for an honest man He 'was found
in Colorado Springs and he is
from Oklahoma He drove his
car a big shiny new one over
an old worn but bicycle in front
of the post office and then spent
the next half hour trying to find
the owner Failing intliis he
attached the following note to the
broken bicycle: “My brakes
failed to Work and 1 accidentally
ran over your wheel I am
mighty sorry and will only be too
glad to pay for the repairs If
you will give me the bill I will
make prompt seHlemedt I hope
this puts you to no great trouble”
What the signature was does not
matter much 'The bill for re-
pairs amounted to $700 and was
paid on the spot Anyway the
honest man would not tell his
name and neither would the man
whose wheW was broken! Neith-

The Girl of Yesterday and

In answer to “As Girls Used
to Appear” ' r
Yes backward turn backward
0 Time in your flight and-give
us a girl dressed proper and right
Yes we are weary of switches
and rats Bill Burke clusters and
peach basket hats Yes give us
the girl minus the rat with her
hair done up perfectly slick and
flat pulled back so tight that her
eyes bug out a fid as slick as greese
from th crown to her snout
The ones that are kicking about
the hair we hear are the old bald
pates without hair to spare Yes
something is wrong with the
maiden we fear give us the girls
as they used to appear 1 We are
tired of hobbles O ain't they s
fright drawn down around the
feet so tight? Give ns the skirt
they used to wear the one with
the ruffles and monstrous flare
The circus tent kind'vitlr steel
rings wire spring and ’-nobody
knows baw many other things
They may not have been such a
cumbersome borer when the
maiden was on the dancing floor
But suppose she was tired and
wanted to rest would the “hoop”
orthe “hobble” succeedthe best?
' Now which looks t!:s worst
my friend to you' the HrSy they
dress now or as they u&d to do?
’TIs true the stylels nA 1 that of
our mother but One is Almost as
bad as the other The “hobble"
is not a -whit worse -than the
“hoop" although there is a dif-
ference in how they look --We’ll
