COTTON SEED OIL MILL
There is a good prospect that a cot-
ton seed oil mill will be built at Elk
City before another cotton crop is mar
keted The Commercial Club has the
matter in hand and is now in corres-
pondence with parties who desire
plant in this county This will insure
the highest price for cotton and score
one moie large enterprise in our
county
democratic harmony
The democracy of the county is
harmonizing wonderfully and if
v:as not strictly coxrary to all past
history the indications would be fav
orable for a very peaceful campaign

dued and it is hardly probable that
they will capitulate without a protest
COALMAN D01L
Roger Mills County Has Both
It has been almost universally belie
ved that oil Can be fourtd in paying
quantities in this county Surface in-
dications are favorable and efforts are
now being made to develop the truth
George Walker one of the oldest res-
idents o the county has been especial-
ly enthusiastic in the belief that oil can
be found and has endeavored to get oil
men interested Several have visited
this place made investigation and ex-
pressed themselves in the belief that
the indications are goo:' Tests have
been mile arid feporied very favora-
ble and parties stated they would place
machinery and sink deep wells
P C Hughes postmaster at Elk
City corresponded with Mr VVelton
the Pennsylvania oil man With the
result tiiat he sent his son to investi-
gate The ' latter met with the Elk
City Commercial Club last week Ind
stated that he had visited the oil fields
Qf Kansas and Oklahoma coming to
Elk Ctty by way of Granite He be-
lieved that oil can be found in various
parts of Oklahoma and that the indi-
cations in this county are extra good
Said that if a tract of 5000 to 10000
acres could be leased in order to pro-
tea the company in going to the ex-
pense of trial wells that a test would
be made and he predicted favorable
results
The people are confident iri securing
oil but so large a proportion of the
land is yet not patented that it "makes
it veiy difficult to Secure leases of suf-
ficient contiguous territory to protect
the capitalists
Shores Bros experienced men wiih
large capital have purchased several
tracts west of Elk City and it is said
they will drill a deep well in search cf
either coal or oil
On the ridge north east of Sayre
there are sure indications of coal' One
party in drilling ior wafer about piree
weeks ago is sai4 tg have struck coal
at a depth of a Utye over 80 feet"
1 N’Johnson repbrts that two or
more w(ells have been drilled in the
same locality since the drill going
into coal from three to five feet deep
arid work suspended The belief is
stmug that coal js there in great abtm-
‘nit uevepment is aain re-
V 'ii account of the homestead
ers’ fer of having mineral found upon
their claims before they secure a patent
Farther development is awaited with
interest Appearances are very favor-
able that coal oil and gas will soon be
found in this county
CANDIDATE ANNOUNCEMENTS
At a recent democratic meeting held
ifS Elk City an attempt was made ( to
Rave a resolution passed prohibit-
ing all democaatic candidates for of-
fice from announcing in republican
papers Now we are informed that
the democratic press of the county
have decided that all democratic can-
didates must pay the modest $hm of
£10 to make their announceri'ient in
the democratic papers This style ct
combine or trust makes it rather hard
on the candidate and will be an item
for the democratic orator "Bust the
trust” has been the war cry of the two
democratic Elk City papers now en-
gaged in the hold-up and their action
this early in the campaign is in accord
with their sincerity in most or their
defense of the interests of the "dear
people” The republican papers have
adopted the former price cf £5 and
as the only way to reach the people is
ihruiigii the large circulation of the re
puc-lican papers the candidates will do
well to consider before encouraging
the trust
BEAUCHAiMP AT MANGUM
