in the cities and towns through-

eastern Oklahoma are looking
forward with Borne misgiving to
the advent' of April 1 On that

There is much reason for fear-
ing that the mine owners will
not accede to the new demands
made that will be presented by
the workers
It is regarded as not unlikely
that this district will be affected
more or less by the discontent
that is manifesting itself among
coal miners throughout the world
When the agreement was af-
fected two years ago the hours
of labor of the miners was reduc-
ed from nine to eight hours and
they secured payment twice a

after the demands have been

letter from county superirtend-
ent Felts of Love county stating
that District Judge Still Russell
recently had held that a pupil in
the public schools can be com-
pelled to take grammer in his
course of sudy
In one of the rural schools of
the county a father infomed the
teacher that he did not consider
the teaching of grammer neces-
sary and did not want his child
to waste time upon it The teach
er told the parent that the child
would be compelled to study
grammar if permitted to remain
in school The father went in-
to court with the forgoing re-
sult The supreme court of the state
about three years ago held that
a parent had a right to select a
reasonable course of study for
his child in the public schools
but Judge Russell held that the
omission of grammer from the
course is not reasonable
