The assertion of Congressman
Little of Arkansas in his speech
in behalf of the bill providing for
three additional judges for the In
dian Territory that conditions
were eo alarming in the Territory
(but lor weeka at a time murderers
have been tried at the rate of one
a day Mr Little ought to bare
said where all this took place
what court and what judge Now
with all due respect to tbia man
from Arkansas we venture the
assertion there isn't a court in the
territory that averages one murder
case a week All this is very well
to help along a bill before Cou-
gress but It creates at the sumo
time a very had impression tor us

The statehood bill passed the
house on the 19th by :i vo'-e of
117 to 100 As passed it provides
for one state of Oklahoma and In
diuu Territory to he called Okla
liomrt and one state of Arizona
an 1 new Mexico to be called Ari-
zona This means of course that
Indian Territory in her unsettled
condition will lose the dunce of
gaining any of the favors distribut-
ed in constructing a new state
Oklahoma will have the placing of
everything regardless of wishes of
the Territory and she will take
advantage of the situation too
Let it so he all the straws that

A few days ago we were shown
the roll of voters polled in 1S98
the total vote being 2S3 In run-
ning over the names we found that
133 were missing something he
tween twenty five and fifty being
dead the others having moved
away This is remarkable when
you consider the short time which
has elapsed only five years with
nearly half being gone
We understand that there are
two or three large bunches of non-
citizen cattle ou the range south
west and southeast of Tahlequah
Te consider it the duty of every
citizen to report such matters to
the chief Tho range is very poor
at beet and will hardly keep the
few cattle owned by citizens and
if non citizen cattle are allowed to
rnn at will it will soon be cleaned
